Hey guys,
Does anyone know the difference between the various Lomo LC-A Editions.
Mainly what is the difference between the "normal", i.e.with written lomo in western characters, and the lomo lc-a with the boy emblem or the one with Cyrillic characters.

Any help would be appreciated as I am conisdering to buy one.

Thanks in advance.

Frankie

okay the way i know it is that the lc-as with the cryillic writing and the even the ones with it written in western characters were the original cameras made in the ussr around the 80's. then around the 90's lomo pretty much went outta buisness and then the LSI took over the factory and stamped thier logo on the front of the viewfinder cover but essencially it is still the same as the ones from the same mould. quality wise i understand that they are pretty much the same but i hear that the older ones were built sturdier. i have an older one from 88 and it has the cryillic writing and the cccp logo on the back and it is a champion!

my opinion is go with the classic one, if any reason because that LSI lomoboy logo looks so dorky lol.

oh yeah and all that is just what i derived from various lc-a fan sites and lomography.com, so if anyone knows the story better please correct me :).

completely agree so dorky!

OP, do yourself a favour, skip the Lomo and buy a Bessa R and Skopar 35/2.5 instead. Far better quality for not much more money.

The nice thing about the Lomo is that it's pocketable, though. Plus, you can pick up a used LCA for around $100... a secondhand Color-Skopar alone will set you back almost twice that.

Like the earlier poster said, I don't think there's much of a difference as far as performance. I've owned both types, the Russian one came to me with a broken shutter and even after servicing it was never really that reliable, eventually failing again completely. The repair guy (an LCA specialist) had even said he'd had a really hard time with it, must have been a basket case. The LSI one worked like a charm, so I just swapped the front lens covering (which is always coming off anyways) with the Russian one to preserve my street cred and shot with that. Eventually put the LSI cover back on and sold it, but if LC-A prices ever dip to something more reasonable I might pick another one up. It was my first film camera and I had a lot of fun with it.
