That looks like a pretty sweet preforming lens.
It looks like a modernized version of the Canon 50mm f1.5 lens.
Very much a 3D effect at its sweetspot at f2.8

It doesn't seem to have that huge leap in contrast between f1.5 to f4, much more even than the vintage J3.

F2.8 does look good.
It will be interesting to see this side-by-side with a good vintage copy. In some ways, the new version looks too modern.

Looks very nice, but....we know the centers will be good. The question with all sonnars is: how are the edges and how do they come in at various apertures.
Also, is the lens optimized for infinity like the original CZJ, or portrait, like the nikkor?

It may be just me, but the bokeh at 1.5 looks different to that of the old J3. The contrast looks nice, but that would make it hard to control shadow detail especially with stubborn films like PanF plus.
There is also vignetting just like the old J3 and I like it.

2,8 looks nice, "better" bokeh than 1,5 in this special motif. My Jupiter 3+ will arrive on friday. Will post some photos after that.
People talk about a J3 like they are a known consistent quality. J3's are anything but. Notoriously inconsistent in quality and workmanship not only in their decades of production but even in the same year. There is an old FSU joke about quality being dependent upon the vodka ration that day which hits the nail on the head about FSU camera and lens inconsistencies. There are J3 lovers on this forum who talk about going thru a dozen or more lenses until finding a "good one," ignoring the high cost of their own time in the search (plus film and processing in an analog search). Whatever your J3 experience is, its very unlikely to be the same as the next guy's, because the lenses are practically never the same. On top of the original production woes, add five plus decades of who knows what kind of life that vintage FSU lens has led.
The J3+ is a vast improvement of the best the old J3 ever was, with a quality focusing mount, precision optical mountings, multicoating, rangefinder coupling 100% Leica standard compatible, and closer .7 focusing. J3+ buyers get a good one right out of the box, without the Where's Waldo search.

I finally got mine!
The construction of the lens is a definite upgrade from the ZM.
I've played around with it in the house a bit, must say I'm impressed, very sharp!
The focus is very precise and perfectly dampened, the aperture is the same.
Seems the focus throw is somewhere in-between the 50 Summilux V2 E43 and a summicron.
My only beef would be that the numbers may have been easier to see in dim light if they were any colour other than black, or if it was click stopped you'd know where you were.

Got mine today, have to say I'm quite impressed with the build quality. Very well-made product. The focus throw and aperture ring are velvety smooth. The multicoated optics are evident from inspecting the glass -- definitely some improvements regarding the coatings on the J3+ compared to the original.
Image quality of the new J3+ is very strongly reminiscent of the original Jupiter-3, although from a cursory test this afternoon I'd say the contrast is a bit higher and the new version is a bit sharper than the old Jupiter-3.
Here's an image of my dog on an afternoon walk today. Leica M 240. I shot this at F2, the focus was on my dog's eyes. The background melts into a pleasing liquid blur. Very nice! I'll be having fun this week getting to know this new "modern classic".

Yes, I'd say it's closer to the Canon than to the C-Sonnar. Which is not a bad thing (I love my Canon 50/1.5). Good to have options in quality sonnar design lenses.

Here's another one from this afternoon. The sunset was casting golden light everywhere, it was really beautiful.
I'm finding that F2 seems to be my favourite aperture for this lens, it captures the fluid background but provides more than enough sharpness and contrast for the subject.

Ride, dive, shoot.
I got my copy on Monday, but have gotten just a few test shots on film as I was just finishing up the roll when I got the lens. I'm running a full roll with the lens now and looking forward to the results. This is my first F1.5 "Sonnar" lens and I need to get used to some focus shifting, but I don't know if that's gonna be an issue for my regular style of casual shooting.
