Long leather RF straps?

I'm looking for a VERY long strap for my M3. Right now I'm using my factory MP nylon strap at just about full extension, that's about 1220mm/48 inches long. I love the A&A strap I presently use on my MP, but they only seem to have straps as long as 1050mm long. What I would like ideally is an adjustable strap that could get as long as about 1500mm. I have found that with one camera around my neck, and the other hanging bandolier style, across my chest, the setup works great for my shooting style when carryiny two cameras. Oh yes, it's got to be leather and of good quality.

I'm trying to contact Luigi (Leicatime) via his ebay site, to see what he might be able to do for me, but just checking to see if someone has any other suggestions.

Not that he needs my commendation, but: Gordy's straps are terrific. If he's willing to make a strap in your preferred length, I'd consider it, seriously.

Luigi can and will make custom length straps per your request. He has made custom length straps for me in the past. You just need to let him know the desired length, style and color, he then will give you a quote. Luigi's straps are great! Good Luck......

I had Luigi made extra-long neck-straps for me a couple of times but recently I made them my own. Just bought 15mm or 10mm wide black leather straps of a length of 1500mm, fittings and it took maybe 20 min. to make a neck-strap. It is much cheaper, faster and actually some fun.

Luigi has made some 120cm straps for me.
And, more recently, i requested and received a custom length strap from LuxeCase.

Thanks, everybody. I have considered a Gordi strap, especially when you look at the price...you can't go wrong. But I think a more traditional width would better fit the bill for me.

Luigi has answered back and said I could get just about any length I wanted, but any color other than black might take him a few more days.

CK Dexter Haven: I was looking at the LuxeCase straps too. The only thing is that they appear to be rather stiff in the pictures. Is this true? The A&A strap I have right now was luxuriously flexible right out of the box.

Somebody should start making Schwalberg straps again. Invented by Leica photographer Bob Schwalberg, it was designed to wear under your jacket. It had a ring and snap several inches from the end so you could unfasten it and pull the strap off your shoulder without having to take off your jacket. He was also noted for having a button sewn on the top of his jacket shoulders so a strap wouldn't slip off.

Of course back in the sixties it was common to wear a suit or sport jacket when out on a shoot, and if you wore your camera in front on a neck strap you'd mess up your tie.

The LuxeCase strap is not nearly as soft as the Luigis. Luigis feel like they're already broken-in, as if i'd already owned it for a few years, even upon receipt. The LuxeCase isn't 'stiff' to me, though - it's very comfortable, even new, and i feel like it will only improve with time. I agree that the photos of them make them look a bit rigid, but mine is very nice. The model i have is: "LLST-450 Brown," at 120cm.

I'm not sure how i feel about a very soft leather strap, especially if it's thin. The Luigi strap certainly feels safe and solid. But, i once had an old Rolleiflex strap simply snap while i was wearing it (in a humid environment, perhaps). But, prior to the breakage, it looked very sound. The deterioration was hidden or beneath the surface or somesuch. So, the LuxeCase's structural feel gives me a bit of confidence. I wouldn't have wanted the thin LuxeCase strap to be any softer initially. I haven't seen an A&A strap in a while, but i have the feeling they're similar to the Luxe.

Al, that sounds like an interesting idea. I think I can picture it.

So, just a simple button that the strap would catch itself on, instead on continuing to slide down the shoulder?

Well, I have to confess to wearing a sport jacket on occasion while out shooting. But I've never been a necktie person, and doubt I ever will be.
