Long-term planning for a very specific gift...

Why not buy yourself birthday gifts? It's a gray idea. I hope you can find the m4p and cron you desire. Placing an add here could find it for you. Funny thing is I bought my first "real" camera in 1982 with money from delivering newspapers. A Yashica FR with 50mm lens. Neither a Leica or rangefinder ;) I tell you the camera I would wish for from 1982 is a Rolleiflex!
Best of luck in your search!

You guys buy yourself birthday gifts?

Nope. But at 30 I bought myself a nice watch that I'm sure will become an heirloom so why not do something similar at 40? I doubt I will buy it or have it on the exact day though. Better to make sure I get the specific spec I want than to worry about the timing, and spend the birthday with family and friends.

Cheers,
Rob

Yeah, it's not so bad.

I wrap it up then rip the wrapping off singing 'happy birthday' to myself before drinking enough cheap whisky to bring welcome sleep in my cold, lonely little house. Waking in the morning only when my urine soaked jeans get too uncomfortable.

Yeah, but I bet it's warm for a little while!

Hmmm...got a spouse, other family member, significant other? It would be a lot cheaper to find what you want and have THEM buy it!

I don't really understand the connection between owning something the same as your birth year, but some people do that. I bought a perfect 1951 MGTD, not my year of birth but light years a better buy. I have a 1963 M3, much better than my birth year camera. Same with the 1953 Summarit lens.

I dunno...I like Bill's idea, except for the $8000!!!
