What some posters do not know is that Wolf Camera, sister store to Ritz Camera is a large chain that has many many stores across USA. They don't even buy used equipment.
Here in the Chicago area, Wolf has a couple "super stores" that carry used equipment; however I'm unsure of the process by which they aquire this stuff.
The store where this guy works, if its the one I think it is, is not a superstore and doesn't carry used equipment.

"The second involves the perceived 'victim'. As the story is told, the seller is a woman who is described as uninformed about cameras and their value. The buyer is presumed to be fairly knowledgeable about same. This invokes a sense of emotion regarding the seller. I posit in this case that if the seller had been a male, or a mean person, or someone who was rude, anything but what was a 'woman' and is now being described as a 'widow', again, there would be no sense of outrage"
This is absolutely correct. Anytime a senior is invlolved, especially a woman, people cry "predatory" without really investigating the facts. I've met many a senior who would take my money w/ the slightest thought. I'm not in favor of the OP or the seller. I'm really not in favor of the moralists here who find it so easy to condemn this buyer (who, admittedly did not have the good sense to keep this purchase to himself), over such a trivial matter. One person says "we should hold ourselves to a higher standars here". That's a nice sentiment, but why? Who the hell are the people here? professionals w/ expendable income, retirees w/ too much time on their hands? very few pro photogs. Some members here act as if they're in some special, exclusive club that confers moral authority. I've seen some ridiulous posts here, people even start quoting the bible over some perceived slights. But I guess that's why I keep coming back.

Please read from sheets and repeat after me:
"I am......sofa king......we todd did"
Say it out loud if you must, but say it until you understand it.
(and yes, I've had to say this myself MANY times)

Interesting that someone said the OP was a kid. This apparently is what "kids" do.
Don't hate because we're smart enough to cheat.

Did the "accused" ever report back to this thread? Or are all these interpretations stemming from the initial first post?

if it were the OP's mother, would the story be the same?
my mother in law finds mint VT, 35 f1.8, and 50 f1.8 in parents storage unit. m-i-l is an antiques dealer, but knows nothing of cameras (nor cares). m-i-l shows me camera. i'm not particularliy interested (shooting 4x5 at the time). enter internet. "you could probably get $400 to $600 for it on craigslist or in your shop. i could offer $250 (knowing i'd need a CLA)."
me needing cash and not shooting 6x7 walks into LA camera shop with 67 rangefinder. "whatta give me for this?" "you can get more if you sell it yourself, we can offer this."
that's honest and professional.
the OP was wrong. but nowadays, he's a savy business hero.
