Look what came in the mail

Looks like a pretty spanking new M5 Frank- very nice indeed. Since I picked up my M5 from Sherry with the new framelines & MP upgrade I've been shooting it almost exclusively. If one can get over the difference between it an other M's it really is a terrific camera. Take some time to learn the meter and you'll be rewarded with more accurate exposures than ever. When Sherry waxed on about the meter I didn't expect this. Ergonomics with that case will be fantastic too- my only gripe with the M5 is my arthritic hands can't hold it long enough!

It's sitting beside me on the couch as I type this, I look over at it, I turn back to the keyboard, and I can still smell it in its luscious Luigi leather case. Other M's are feminine whereas the M5 is definitely masculine. My black Summicron is the proper vintage for it. This will be interesting!

You should be jealous. Hell, Bigfoot & Bubba are tres jealous. Bigfoot used to live in a Luigi half case. I need to restore that combination. Must save my pennies.

Just received a 50 mm Summilux (ver 1) from EricFive. Love it. Hope he likes the Canon 50/0.95 I traded him for it.

ps ... I've always thought of the M5 as being like a very fit slightly muscular woman ... strong and enigmatic ... but still feminine!

i agree with sepiareverb, the meter on the m5 is awesome; and the m5 is built for guys with medium to large size paws. Strangely, my favourite lens on my m5 was my little Elmar 35/3.5 🙂
 
I wear eyeglasses.
I'm noticing that the M5 viewfinder reminds me more of the M6 .85mag than it does of the M2 .72mag viewfinder, even though the M5's mag is .72 like the M2. There must be a difference in the eye-relief. I cannot see the 35mm framelines in the M5 all at once. The most significant issue though is that because of my eyeglasses, I can not easily see the meter!

The larger size is not an issue. The camera itself is in super condition. I may have to use this camera with a hand held meter, or with the hotshoe CV meterII.

Just received the smallest lens hood I've ever seen. It fits my Olympus Pen S. It's black paint over solid brass.

Hi-Matic 11 finally arrived today. Seller said he'd "ship it tomorrow" and I think it was something like three weeks ago. It's a cheapo camera in unknown working condition, but everything seems fine so once I get a battery in we'll see what happens.
 
Got my 20 rolls of Fuji Neopan 1600 for more late day shooting with the M5- I'm really starting to love this film- and a used folding VF for the Pentax 67 which is on the way for an upcoming project.
 
oohhh.. Pentax 67. Have you had one before? I keep hearing about mirror slap making it hard to use below 1/250 unless on a tripod; other than that it seems like it could be the ultimate SLR.
 
Yes- traded it about 10 years ago for my first 810 I think(?) Perhaps for a Nikon F4S & 25-50 AiS lens(?). Anyway, it is a great beast of a camera, the MLU versions are much superior. I had borrowed two of these before I got mine, one a very old one was a bit jittery after 1/15 or so even on a tripod, the 2nd had MLU, and that was fine. I really miss this camera, and am really looking forward to dipping into the dark side again.

Got 5 small but important packages;
The lovely Canon 50mm from fishtek, an assortment of useful stuff from "heavystar"(40-40.5 step up ring and some various filter stack caps), 6 LTM rear caps from our Head Bartender--very useful as I have a literal "mixed bag" of lenses for my Bessa and I was getting tired of having one of the CV lenses on the camera, another lens in my pocket, and not having a deep enough rear cap on the other lens to let me change lenses. Now, all my varied lenses will have CV rear caps.😎 And 30 rolls of film from ecamerafilms; good price even with shipping and tax.
And a little USB powered light for my laptop.
