Just got a 35mm 2.8 Summaron and figured I better get a hood for it so it doesn't flare.

Can find the 12585 and 12585H hoods on eBay for 50-60 USD, but shipping to Australia adds another 40-50 USD to the price, so may be a bit expensive.

Would anyone here have a suggestion to an alternative hood for this lens, or a spare 12585 or 12585H hood for sale? I like the vented hoods due to the lesser obstruction of the viewfinder, but open for other suggestions.

Thanks

I think the correct hood for that lens is the 12504. It's a two piece hood that takes a series VII filter. I recently bought one with filter in Mint condition. They've been going for about $180.00 on the big auction site. The 12585 is for the 50mm Summicron and I've see some pretty nice ones on the same site for around $50.00

Heavystar has a screw-in hood just like the Summicron hood. Again, made for 39mm screw. What is your Summaron's filter size?
The 12585 are metal, but there is also a later one in plastic. No big difference except the material.

Looks like filter size is 39mm. According to a pnet thread the 12585 fits, and is marketed for, the 35mm summaron. The older hood also fits, but was said to obstruct the viewfinder more.

Perhaps the heavystar hood would be an option, thanks for that

You can try to buy a Leitz IROOA clip on lens hood: i own and work very fine. The IROOA don''t is pretty to see, but is very useful and permit the use of the filters without vignetting problems.
Ciao.
