I am leaving soon for a 90 day trip. We are carrying all our gear in medium size backpacks. I am taking an M9 with 21/35/90 and I am looking for a bag which would hold the Leica kit plus a bit more while used as a carry on but it must stuff easily into the backpack when hiking.
Now I own several Domke's including the 803 which is just a bit on the big and stiff side for what I am looking for. I own a BBB which is easy to stuff when empty but need something just a bit larger.
So what is out there which is easy to stuff (no padding or built in frame) somewhere between the size of a BBB and 803. Army Gas Mask bag comes to mind. THANKS

the fstop shibata might work…it's a thin material with not so much padding, in fact, the padding comes in the form of an insert so if you removed the insert the bag would crumple nicely in your hand and stuff into another bag easily.

A Domke F5XB would hold the M9 and the 3 lenses, but not the "bit more." An F10 would hold all that, and has a roomy pocket for the "bit more." I use 'em both.

Kalahari K-41. Cheap squashable canvas bag. Not sure about availability in the US.
Think tank Retrospective 5 might be an option. Not so cheap and squashable though.

Second that. But go for the K-41i, that one holds an iPad as well.

Padding is thin and removes, folds down. Same for the bag, folds down small.
Bag is light, capacious, and goes from trim to fat with two expansion zippers.
Can hold a MacBook Air 11" or full size iPad easily.
I find it a good 'occasional' bag. The one thing I don't like (relative lack of structure) is probably a plus for what you're after.
