Yes, but leica is not a dress, it is just a tool, like hummer, I believe if factory did it in red, it is supposed to be in red.

Leica did it red to brand it their own. for their brand, not for their photographers (except, maybe, the posers).
shooting on the street, even with the discreet black, that red dot flashes and catches the eye of every passerby. it is almost worse than if the entire camera was red.
why do you think there is no dot at all on the MP, the top of the range film camera? because photographers demanded it.
if you want your red because you think that's the way it's supposed to be, keep it red! there are those of us that think the black dot is a little more elegant than gaffers tape if we choose to be a wee bit more discreet.
i don't let anyone tell me how to dress; and i certainly don't let any manufacturer tell me how to dress my tool.

I just think it looks better black, already have taped over the M8, the first thing I do when I get a new work camera (always canon) is cover the logo the reason being I just spent how many thousand I don't think I need to walk around advertising, same reason I change the straps to up-straps.
But I do like the black leica logo and its very small, leica should have kept with the logo on the top of the camera with a small M8/M9 next to the serial number.

I changed my red dots on the M6 and M7 with original Leica black dots from Don Goldberg of DAG camera.
His website seems to always indicate out of stock of this hard to get item.
I wrote him a mail and asked for dots, got a prompt answer, that they indeed were OOS, but was contacted by Don, when he got them back last summer.
Changing the dot is a nice excuse, to adjust the rangefinder alignment as well ;-)

Indeed! I do the same thing with my vehicles, I "de-badge" them, take off any stickers and emblems (sometimes that requires a little bit of bodywork in older cars, if there's holes in the sheet metal behind the emblem).
For one I like the cleaner look, and for another I just paid for it, why do I need to provide free advertisment for them? (dealer stickers, license plate holders especially!) and then for the final reason, more than likely anyone who is interested in cars is going to know what the car is anyway, so why have the badges?

The original M8 (not M8.2) white "M8" on the front of the body comes off very easily with rubbing alcohol if it hasn't already started flaking off of its own accord. I'd only recommend this for the black chrome cameras, not the later black paint ones, I don't know how that paint will react to something like rubbing alcohol.
After I removed the white "M8" lettering, I replaced it with a glass black that looked much nicer. I also took the red dot off, painted it with matte black then when it was dry, gently scraped the Leica script clean.
What I really want to find is a Yashica Atom logo that I can stick on the M8 when it comes back from Leica (CLA, hot pixel fix).

No wonder I so many cars burn tires and end up and crashing into lamp posts and so many people fall into manholes or hit their noses against walls and doors whenever I'm out in the street with any of my M6TTL cameras! I haven't covered their red dots or painted them black! 😱

i've had my red dot back on the camera since it came back from Solms and haven't switched it out yet as i'm not sure the RF is perfect... in the meantime, i've painted my nails red so it all sort of blends in 😛
(did i mention i also have red hair that i nearly to my bum now? i don't stand out all!)

Plus its like opening a birthday present each time he has to change the battery. I prefer tape but a bit less of it.

It is total nonsense - Moisture can get in through the shutter button. And up until now the only DigiMs that had moisture damage were through condensation, which this tape does nothing to prevent. A number of cameras even survived a full immersion.
