I want to do an experiment with my Canoscan 8800F but want to first practice on a broken scanner. Basically I need to know how to take the thing apart and back together again. Not quite ready to sacrifice my working scanner yet.
Given the fact that devices like this have no value once they are broken I no one bothers putting them up for sale.

Who has one and is willing to sell it to me for cheap ?

Hi Rogier,

I stumbled upon your post ( 3 months late, sorry). I don't have an 8000 for you but thought I would offer up some help if you still need it.

I found your post looking for someone to guide me in how to take my 8000 apart for cleaning the glass underneath.

I didn't find any help online and tackled it myself. Here's what I did:
  1. remove the lid. It basically lifts off. The left hinge required a little more force to pull free compared to the right one. disconnect the lid lamp power plug and set the unit aside.
  2. In the wells that the lid hinge fir into, remove the phillips head screws.
  3. turn the unit over. On the USB/power end, remove the two phillips head screws that are recessed about 2 inches.
  4. turn unit back over
  5. gently pry the gray plastic piece located on the top USB end off. Be careful as the plastic tabs can break. I used a small flathead screwdriver successfully. Again, be careful.
  6. The glass plate slides horizontally out toward the USB end.
  7. I cleaned with a lint free cloth.
Hope this helps,

-Al

Thanks, I have seen that post as well.
I want to modify the printer and need to practice first ;-)
