If you could stand a film P&S you could get a Canon AS-6. They are about $25 and sometimes even give an acceptable picture. Plus you don't care if it gets thrashed.

Thanks for the very helpful comments. I just ordered a Pany TS3 after seriously considering the cute Fuji and also some older film options... I might never dive with it (Lake Ontario visibility is measured in inches) but I think it should be great for hiking around, kayaking, and being stupid.

Undoubtedly you'll see the stupidness soon ;-p

Go for the TS3.
Waterproof to about 45 feet, so if you drop it in a little deeper than you intend, you might still be ok.
Worked great for my last vacation, through rain soaked hiking, boogie boarding at the beach and playing in the hotel pool.

The photo that I posted previously – where the water is green – is from Lake Ontario. I rinsed the camera thoroughly afterwards, as always. 😀
