You should try pairing your FE with a Series E 50 or 35 next time. That will lighten your load and you won't be giving up much on the lens side of things either.
The Nikon 45mm 2.8 pancake is their tiniest lens. Next would be the Voigtlander 40mm f2 pancake. Which actually is a 'better' lens than the Nikon (I have both).

Guys, he decided to go with a Rollei 35.
We the people of the "SLRs - the unRF" forum view the Rollei as a separate and unrelated transaction as he asked about getting an SLR.

Had a Nikkor 48/2.8 some years back and never understood what Tessar aficionados were waxing poetic about it. Adorably small it was, and difficult to mount/unmount because there's nothing to grab.
Simple design and to my eye, undistinguished at ƒ/2,8 or ƒ/8. Just picked up a CV 2/40 SL1 with a cone hood to try our with my FM3a.
