It is time to upgrade my vintage Logan 1-bulb light box.
I'd like it to be:
1. Even illumination (no surface texture or backlight pattern)
2. Daylight balanced with full spectral output
3. Not huge (A4 8.5"x11" is plenty)
I see lots of slim LED-lit "Tattoo" tracing boxes on ebay, though I don't know how they compare to fluorescent-lit box. For some time, LED's had mediocre color output. From the photos, it also looks like they have a backlight pattern. Anyone tried one?
A tablet won't work for my purpose, as I get interference patterns from the RGB matrix.
I look forward to seeing your ideas!

I have a Porta-Trace ight box, primarily for viewing slides and negatives, and for that purpose, it works very well.
I do NOT use it as back lighting for small item photography, so I can't comment on it if that is your intended use.

Thanks, yes I do intend to use it for digitizing film. I have issues with my current setup in that light intensity varies ever so slightly across the surface. As a result, it can cause visible seams in my output when I make a multi-shot stitch.

Hi,
I use a 49x16" Luxor
but ...
Some old 9x13" models:
Graphiclite GLX-10LG
Acculight portable viewer/sorter
Matrix SV-1 attache viewer
Just superflat mini 5000
Call KEH or Adorama used dept.
Regards,
Robert

This may be worth a look:

I use a different brand EL panel for my astrophotography, but it is not suited for digitizing negatives because the spectrum on mine is not balanced well. It does give very even illumination, though.

Perhaps a led panel light + some 1/8" white translucent plexiglass.

If I were set up to buy and custom-cut sections of plexiglass, I would be all for this option. Unfortunately, my tools and time are limited. Thanks for the suggestions on the other models.

Thank you for bringing these to my attention, though I have to admit I am completely confused as to what they are supposed to do in terms of astrophotography!
