Hi there,
I am travelling regular to the US and would like to get hold of an Epson R-D1 (thrilled by the forum and the great responses to the camera).
I am getting often to Seattle (next week for example) and was hoping if there are some (or at least one) dealer in the area who might have a Epson R-D1 in stock (used/ unused).
Do you have some advice for me?
Or is there any respected and trusted dealer in the US available, who would be able to ship one to some friends of mine in Seattle?
Thanks a lot in advance for any hints!
Greetings from Germany (where the Epson is still expensive and rare to get hold of, unfortunately M8 is out of my budget...)

I doubt there are any US dealers for the camera, since it has been discontinued. Other than buying a used one from someone here, I recommend matsuiyastore on eBay who has new ones in stock (at least the last time I checked). A very reliable, fast shipping Japanese dealer.

Omega,
Tuolumne is correct. You will probably have success finding a used one from a private party. You might try Epson directly and inquire if they have any refurbished units available.
In Seattle the camera store that comes to mind is Glazers Camera http://www.glazerscamera.com/. While there are a few others in the area Glazres would be the most likely to have one as they sold them new. The other store to try is Kenmore Camera http://www.kcamera.com/.
Good luck,
Bob

Epson has been out of refurb units for over a year. They used to sell the refurbs on their Web site for $1,500, sometimes with a 10% off coupon. What a steal! Those days are gone.

I got my R-D1 through an eBay dealer in Hong Kong for about $1600, brand new. At the time they had 3 in stock and I thought it was too great to pass up. They were rather poor communicators so I was a little worried, but the camera showed up on my doorstep about 3 days after I paid them. Hong Kong to NYC in about 3 days isn't too bad at all.

Thanks a lot for the feedback so far!
Maybe I had be a bit clearer, I would be fine with a used one as well (depending on the conditions and the price..), so if anyone has some hints...
Year, I am visiting regulary Glazers and Kenmore when I am in Seattle, but the last times I haven't looked for the Epson...and I was hoping that there would be a "specialized" Dealer for used stuff in the Pudget Sound area...
Thanks

I don't think any place in Seattle will carry them, used or new. I actually saw a used one in the case at Glazers a little over a year ago, and I know they used to sell some new ones when the camera was first introduced. When I spoke with one of the salesman there, he was frustrated with Epson's marketing of R-D1, and was happy not be dealing with them anymore. Glazers is a great store, but they've clearly washed their hands of the R-D1.
I just ended up buying used through the classifieds here at RFF. That's probably your best bet. They seem to come up for sale regularly.
