I always hate DSLRs each time I try to give them a chance... there is nothing worse than going out with a camera that isn't your thing. Of course it works, and you may even make great photos, but ultimately, you should be happy / comfortable with the tool you use. In the long run, I truly feel you'll make better photos with the camera you truly love. However, not everyone is the same.
Of course, but it has to be a balance between the two. You'll not be happy with the camera that you don't want to take out, but you'll also not be happy with a camera that does not produces the images you want. If I were choosing between two cameras, one which produces IQ i liked but was a little larger and one that had the perfect form factor/ergonomics for me but lacked in IQ, I'd choose the larger camera any day.
In the end, the camera will be replaced but the images wont.
