Looking for some parts

I'm looking for some parts for my S3 🙁

A month ago, I sent it to local camera repair shop. but they disassembled it with improper tools, So a nut has been broken. this nut originally placed between A-R ring and top plate. (please see attached pic)

Does anyone know where I can find these parts? (A-R ring and nut) and I need Nikon F style winding lever too.

After reading your post I'm not too sure, which part you are looking for actually.

Are you looking for the complete A/R nut, or just the slotted collar that screws into the nut and secures the nut onto the camera top casting ?

Also, on your pic #1, what's that spacer on the left ? On Nikon RF and F cameras there is no spacer, only the shutter release button, the A/R nut, and the above mentioned collar that screws into the nut (plus a set screw to secure the collar, accessible through a port of the nut while setting the nut between A and R).

BTW there is a simple way to break the collar, it's by forcing to unscrew it without having removed the set screw first.

Also, if your S3 is an original vintage body, you can't fit the longer F-style winding lever directly unless you are ready to get rid of the useful 45° standby position of the lever (the three 120° slots in the small S2-style winding lever and the longer F-style winding lever not being located at the very same place). You can do it, but as a result the winding lever will spring back fully into its folded position as soon as you have cocked the shutter.

I replaced the short original S2-style lever with an F-style lever on my own vintage classic S3 but also replaced the ratchett underneath the top cover with one coming off a dead F body to keep the benefit of the winding lever resting on its 45° standby position.

If the part you are looking for is the complete A/R nut, I wouldn't vouch for the F2 one full compatibility because the F2 one has three positions (T, "normal" and L) not only two (A/R) and also has to be pulled out to be moved, so, the underneath design of the RF/F and F2 nuts might be different.

OTOH yes, the RF and F nut, collar and shutter release button are fully identical.

As you see in the pic #1, the spacer is not a genuine part. it was placed on the broken nut, I think unskilled repair man tried to conceal what he did!

After read your reply, I totally understood what parts should I get. I think finding disabled Nikon F body is easier than getting each part for doing this work!

It looks quite clean, for $45 I'd now rather replace the mirror (very easy), give it a good basic CLA (new mirror foam etc) and locate a compact standard prism to use it, than strip that nice & working F down for parts...

That's a good suggestion from Highway 61 to repair the F and use it, though you might be surprised at how much basic prisms sell for. Probably twice or three times what the camera cost 😱

I suggest stripping the F for the parts you need, and then sell the remaining F parts and get your money back 😀

Luckily, A camera shop where I bought my S3 searched missing parts and now AR nut has been replaced. I'm gonna strip winding lever only, than sell it to local repair shop 😎

I considered locating basic prism finder, but its price is not basic as Jon wrote!! 😱

Finally I changed winding lever.🙂

It was not that easy. as Highway 61 mentioned, ratchett should be changed.

Solid type Nikon F winding lever, like it!. F's ratchet looks more complicated.

Differences between F and S3's top parts.

Nikon SP 2005 and original S3 with F-style winding lever and shutter dial, film counter. 🙂
