not to diminish the quality of the 18 or the 35 at all...i have especially been pleased with the 35 and how useful the focal length has been but...i really prefer the 27 (40) pov.
it is the perfect, for me, carry all the time lens.
couple it with the 14/60 and my ona bag and i could travel the world and be satisfied.
i must admit that the 18 is a great temptation to use instead of the 14 just because of it's size! i keep thinking of the 18/27/60 as perfectly sized.

I'm not a fan of the 18mm at all. I honestly think it isn't up to par with any of Fujis other lenses. The zoom at 18mm is actually better. I guess when they made it small and fast, you had to expect some diminished quality though.
I believe the 35mm 1.4 is one of the best lenses I've ever used (including Zeiss and Leica lenses).
I'm hoping the 27mm is closer to the 35mm than to the 18mm in quality.

The panasonic 20 is an excellent lens despite it's size and built. I would believe the 27 which is similar in size will also perform well. Some sample of 18 I saw are not that bad at all.

i know you weren't happy with the 18 but i can't fault it...but my reality is that if i were to stick with a 3 lens kit the 14 would win a place over the 18.
as of today, i have no plans to sell any of the lenses though...

See, that's the thing. Will the 18mm kill your otherwise great photo? No, of course not. However, it is clearly inferior to Fuji's other lenses when you compare. If it wasn't for the Ricoh GR having a great lens, I would most likely still use the Fuji 18mm and make do. Now, when I need 28mm, I make do with the Ricoh.

the 14 is indeed a bit sharper/crisper than the 18...but that doesn't make the 18 a bad lens...that being said, i just switched out the 18 for the 14 in my bowery bag!

I happen to like the 18mm
One thing I noticed about the 27, which is the 3rd reason it's not for me, is that it appears there isn't any mount for a lens hood...at least not the characteristic Fuji XF hood (which I like). The other two reasons: no aperture ring (It's the most intuitive control on that lens mount), and 39mm filters (I have a nice 3-stop ND for the 35 and 18, so I can shoot wide-open in daylight).
It's definitely a prosumer lens. Too bad.
Now if they'd hurry with that 23/1.4...

X pro with 27 sounds like a great combo..any release date set? Haven't kept up much.

No aperture ring is not a deal breaker (Joe's favorite wording
) for me. I more interested in overall iq from the lens. I am hoping they come out with a lens hood similar to the Nikon slr 45mm pancake. The lens hood is a inverted cone type which is pretty short.

Ps we talked about it in this thread along w/ the cv version

Concerning the 27mm photos - I thought the Greek seaside town was pretty amazing. The chainlink fence in the lower right corner seems pretty darn sharp to me!

According to MTFs it's very similar to performance of 60mm. Considering the fact that 60mm is the sharpest lens in the lineup we might have got a winner here. My only concern now is if it's optically or digitally corrected for distortion.

Ok help me here... Why do u care?
I thought most photo sw editors these days have either built in info for the lens correction or are taking info from the raw file itself.
A lens like the 14 or 18 is much more aggressive a design then the 27 (traditionally that is) so if u are happy w/ either of those, then this should not be as bad in terms of distortion.

I might not care if it's still pretty sharp after corrections. From my experience 14mm is noticeably better than 18mm and I can see the difference without pixel peeping on retina displays. Published samples look quite promising and most likely I'll get the pancake if results from C1 conversion aren't far behind. (e.g. C1 has quite poor CA correction tools in my opinion)
It's a shame that Fuji doesn't publish RAW files too as I could have probably made my preorder already.
Now, who is getting silver?
