Looks like I've found my "soup"!

Latest roll shot...combined the experimental search for a development formula, and a first attempts with my new 21mm CV. The mix was Rodinal at 1:100, 7 minutes at 68 degrees, with one agitation by inversion each minute. You can see the results in my gallery.

Which film? 7 minutes in 1:100 seems very short?

The shots I saw in Don's gallery say it's Arista 100 EDU ... I'm assuming that's correct. The time seems short to me, too, but the results are pretty good. A bit low contrast, so I'd say more time wouldn't hurt.

Yeah, Arista 100 EDU Ultra. My last experiment was at 8 minutes, and before that, 10 minutes. Both of those attempts resulted in LOTS of visible grain, which I'm trying to minimize.

I also tried a batch mixed at 1:50, and didn't like those results at all. Stay tuned for more...

Boy, you have really stuck with AEU100, and I think you have it. I can still see a little of the quick fall off of shadow detail under the leaves of the colius (?) but lots of tones elsewhere. If I ever try AEU100 again I will use your formula, very good.

If it is fine grain you are after you might consider using two bath developement, I use the Kodak D23 formula for the first bath, Kodalk (sodium metaborate) for the second bath. I have used this with HP5, it gives an efective film speed of around 800ASA and vith very fine grain, which would be very much finer with a slower film. I hope to soon experiment with adox 50ASA film with a medium format folding camera (with coupled rangefinder of course) to see what I can get in the way of image quality.

Thanks, Stephen, but I'm trying to keep stuff simple. I'm not even sure where I'd be able to track down the stuff...Kodak, I guess. Finding a retailer that has 'em would be the trick.

Anyhow, thanks for the info. I'll archive the suggestion, and if I can get the stuff, I'll give it a whirl!
