Happened to me with 2 Rolleiflexes -- I was about to faint -- searched high and low -- it was in my wife's care behind the driver's seat -- I had brought her car in for servicing and wanted to have my camera along and then forgot to remove it. So check your car.
that would be very scary!!

I once lost a Sekonic L-208 Twinmate hand heldmeter without having the least idea about where it might have been forgotten/put/dropped.
Digged the house, the car, the house of a friend, more.
That was in August 2010 : it hasn't surfaced yet.
Not gone to meet mine, as that has only been missing for about nine months...
Things I've got plenty equivalent of (like light meters, or compact cameras) will end up misplaced in some rarely used bag or jacket, anywhere between studio, home and the country house - so these do vanish sometimes for a few years, until I stumble on them while looking for something else.

All my life I've heard "It's always in the last place you look" and thought it was the most preternaturally stupid saying I ever heard. Of course it's always in the last place you look. Who in his right mind would keep looking once they found it?

Whenever I misplace my digital camera, I have my wife phone it, and I listen for the ringing.

Sometimes things bend space time and disappear.
I just received my new phone and I'm looking for some SIM card adapters I've got around here... Amusingly I remember putting them away between some books to clear the desk, but now can't find them.
Oh, technically it is now Sat. 14th here now. That might aid in the search, which it hasn't as I've been 15 minutes sifting through papers around the desk. No blaming aging here as I'm 20.
Infact I have a brutally good memory for keeping some dates, events and people. I associate events with photographs or images I keep in my memory as snapshots and the context is what I remember.
It doesn't work for exams however

I looked for something high and low recently and finally remembered I had sold it on Craigslist. Aging is ....
I was thinking the same thing.
Joe probably sold it to buy a much smaller camera to fit in his Levies coin pocket

Apologies for inducing thread creep, but I may well hold the record for misplaced and recovered later items.
Three months ago, I unexpectedly found my long lost red and gray Patagonia synchilla fleece watch cap. I was rummaging through my gear locker, looking for something else when I discovered the watch cap in an Eagle Creek satchel that I had not used for many years.
My Patagonia cap had been missing for eighteen (18) years and I had completely forgotten about it.

I misplaced a sekonic 398 studio deluxe meter for 2 years in a winter coat I didn't wear. When I did put it on again after 2 years and stuck my hand in a pocket, I was like, hey what is this?

I hope you find it. Last week I couldn't find one of my lenses and it drove me nuts! My husband found it under my sweater!
Take care,

Body caps. Weird little buggers - I can't begin to recall how many have made a successful break for freedom from my bag, down the years. And buying replacements isn't cheap these days......
