Lost all my gear, starting over.

I'd start with the camera you truly want. Another alternative is a Canon P with 50mm 1.8. I'm sure you'll be able to spare some more cash in the near future for darkroom stuff... Also, if you look hard enough, and ask around, you'll find that some people will give you darkroom stuff for free.
 
Sorry to hear about the theft and loss. That sucks.

Don't let go of what you learned along the way. Restart small, and I mean that literally. Pick up a Rollei 35 or Minox 35GT-E, a Ricoh GR1, a Minolta HiMatic or a Canonet. Get into the mood of taking pictures with it, using its constraints to push your creativity. Once you get your photo feet under you again, you can evaluate whether you want or need anything further.

Of my many cameras it's one of my absolute favorites.

I lost all my darkroom gear in Sandy and have taken my time gathering replacements.
As mentioned there are some phenomenal deals on enlargers now...

I had the same experience in Barcelona 2 years ago. Someone must have been very happy with my bag...... The only thing left was my passport. Payment of the insurence company was ridiculous: no reason to prolongue this during my lifetime again.

On the other hand: starting again with nothing was a new experience by which I could take decisions I would otherwise not have made. It brought me back to analogue again. For a choise to make: a Nikon FE with a 28mm lens?

1. I agree with the camera suggestions- many to choose from - recommend searching prior RFF threads on this topic (there are many), but you MUST search via google for best results due to the challenging nature of searching on the RFF website, e.g. on Google, put in rangefinderforum and "cheap rangefinders" or "rangefinders under $100".

2. remember that many credit cards companies offer insurance on stolen items which were purchased with THAT credit card, even if the items were used..... one reason I keep all my receipts.

I think the " camera purge" can/ could be an interesting path.
I sold the M8 & 35 summarit. Got a Fuji x pro & 2 lenses + a grand in the bank.
Now selling the Fuji in classifieds. Not sure what to get digitally.
Point And shoot?
Can't afford a new digital & a new computer to cope with the file sizes!
I have too many film cameras to count.
Lots of Yashica Rangefinders if you are interested.
Assume you are US based.
Go to some charity shops.
Anything that catches your eye.
Or anything that works as Mr Mortensen would have it.
 
Starting over with few $ sounds like film if you can afford it.

Film slr or RF go for cheap. The darkroom is required to make it fun.

A Nikon slr will allow you to use lenses you may acquire to fit on a Nikon digital in the future if they are Ai or later. Any if you buy a Df. 28 2.8 and longer work well. Shorter work on film, not so well on full frame digital.
 
I think I remember Roger Hicks saying something like... buy the thing you really want not what you think you deserve or what's cheap at the time .... sorry if that's not accurate Roger.
What do you really really want, Leica, Sinar 8x10 ... Fuji X100 ?
I would go for some thing that allowed me to feel passionate about photography a camera I can't put down and that will drag me outside even on rainy days to capture life.
