I sent my 1949 Leica Iii c Sharkskin to be CLA'd 2 months ago. The camera was shipped back to me Canada Post 2 weeks later using their "guaranteed delivery within 6 business days service" complete with tracking. It never arrived!!

Canada Post informed me yesterday that they cannot find the package and consider it lost.:bang:

It is insured and I will be able to replace it.. but I have to say that it is a crying shame to think of my beautiful and almost perfect Iii c lost in the post!

Look on the bright side.

There's quite a fair chance it'll turn up in a few months, and then you'll have the compensation and the camera.

Good luck (and commiserations),

Cheers,

R.

What a shame! I can't believe "lost"... It's not a thin letter... At least you had it insured...

Cheers,

Juan

Juan I am cynical enough to suspect you are right and that is the point....it is not a thin letter! So some sticky fingered postal employee may have decided he would like something that looked like a new camera.....although I suspect he would have gotten a shock when he opened the parcel. I can imagine Joe Lunch-Pail thinking "Whats this piece of old junk?"

If there was a return address on the parcel like "Bills Camera Emporium" this might just have been enough to promote envy in someone's eyes. But one should never expect large bureaucracies to admit fault as they all think their systems are perfect and their staff are all paragons of virtue...even when they know they are not.

Parcels from the US can take up to 3 weeks sometimes 4 if sent by "parcel" class mailing. If the camera was sent any other way there are two things. First the parcel is automatically eligible for insurance somewhere around $100 - $200 and there should be a tracking ID to the parcel.

I've used both CP and USPS 20 years with no 'failure to deliver' problem ever. I even send cash in the mail.. no problems so I'm at a loss to figure out what's going on with these recent incidents.

This bites!

I hope they find your camera! In the last 3 years the postal services have lost about $250 worth of packages from me in the mail. :(

I always use UPS and it has never failed me, do they ship in Canada?
Joe

Yea, they ship in Canada but are not infallible either. They managed to loose a rifle for me which they eventually found after I filed a police report. I hope I don't jinx myself by saying this, but I have not had any problems with stuff going missing using CP or USPS. They may be slow at times but it does eventually get to where it is going.

Bob

Sorry to hear the OPs troubles with lost goods.
