I lost my sanity, when I rediscovered the joys of rangefinders. And hooking up with all the fellow knuckleheaded rangefinder user's in here, made it that much worse...

That's funny. I feel like I gain some measure of sanity by using equipment that not only "does not have a computer in it" but did not even "use a computer to design the optics on it".

Time to go to work programming my computer in the lab to do an optical control loop. I know a very talented Engineer that wants to be a manager. THAT is losing your sanity.

That's funny, some of us are quite estatic now that they've finally "put a computer" into a certain type of camera we all use here. :D

That is because they have never had the computer "Crash" inside of their camera YET like I have.

Just an Example: N8008s. The auto-rewind function engages when the last frame cannot fully advance. If the last shot is exactly at the end of the roll, the camera freezes up, the off-switch does not work, you have to remove the batteries and leave them out for 30sec, put them back in, and immediately hit manual rewind. Just a little software glitch. That will cause insanity!

Anybody else with experiences?

Nope, Brian...only with my cell phone (a sony whatever). Sometimes it loses its sound without notice, have to reboot it...sometimes it crashes and i have to remove the battery to wake him up.
But no cameraware problems yet (have a minolta dynax 5).

What i've found half funny half sad is, the commercial for a higher-end canon digital P&S in a dutch photo magazine, beginning with "It's the camera that thinks for you"...

It thinks for ya? That might be a good trick for certain people in this world. :)

Don't leave me in suspense! If you are like me, you need one of those. :D

"We are lost, but we are lost together!"

Tragically Hip, a great Canadian band

So far, no cameras have engaged in erratic behavior this side of paradise. And whenever it's seemed they were, there was a reason (for instance, a dead meter when yours-truly forgot to take spare batteries with)...

However, I do enjoy shooting my Nikon AF SLR. It's an F80 (European version of the N80). It's nice and confortable to rest a bit, not to make decisions for a while and let the camera set it all.

But then a small voice says inside me "Do you know what your camera is doing?"

Russ, you ain't alone. I too lost my sanity. Why, if not for it, would I post such a digression on camera use?

We're sad basket cases here... :(
