i am looking at the lens and the serial number is 15565433
does that mean alot have already been produced ??
hmmm

I've attempted for years to make some sense of Zeiss serial numbers, with no success. Maybe the 433 could signify series production, but that's just wild speculation on my part.

ugly. Surprisingly ugly OOF. Not what I expected. Sharp as broken glass, but the bokeh from the Nikon 50mm F1.8 I used to have was much more attractive. I guess sharpness and OOF are not always closest of friends.

Surely you'd pay dearly for one of these lenses. I might go for the 85mm f1.4 for portraiture, but I'd stick with the Nikon 50s. I would like to see the material from the 28mm.

a lot of these are marked as taken with the new planar 50/1.4, some are unmarked, and at least one is marked as taken with the Nikkor 35/1.4. It's a mess.

The bokeh is IMO on par with the Nikkors 50/1.2 AIS and 50/2 AI, but definitely a lot better than the Nikkor 1.4 and 1/8 versions (AI, AIS, AF and AF-D) which are plain horrible. Still not good bokeh though, such as the Nikkor 45/2.8 AI-P or the Nikkor 85/1.4 AF-D. Shame.
