i just wrote to ona and asked about the material that the tuck/clasp is made from...will let you know when/if they reply.
according to ona, it's made from brass!

tired of selling...just made 2 trips to the post office for supplies and then mailing of 5 bags and a gift to a friend.
i like bags and i may appear foolish but...photographing is my pleasure and i like for the whole experience to be enjoyable. each bag that i use has a purpose...usually it needs to carry the gear i want for that day and that gear changes...sometimes i carry no bag if it's a one camera/one lens day...sometimes i carry 1 camera/2 lenses...sometimes i take it all...sometimes i like to add the ipad mini...
i like the bags to fit my need and nothing more...so using a big bag that holds everything to carry a few things is annoying to me...
i also like being able to speak from experience...i have used tons of cameras, lenses, bags etc...not just read about them or read other's experience...my words usually come from having been there, done that...practical and not theory...
Bolded and Underlined: Can't be said any better than that.
I sometimes join in the ribbing of you about your bags. If I were more honest and informative about my photo experience I am sure I would be ribbed. If I ever make that mistake (

You know me Joe, I like my bags too. Heck we've had many of the same ones. I wondered why you chose this. Looks a nice bag but just a little smaller than the TT Retro 5 we both own. I thought the Retro was fine for what you carry.
If I need a smaller bag I use my BBBe which is a slimmer design but could be so much better, doesnt hold an ipad, pockets so small and tight to be virtually useless, but is okay if only carrying one camera plus daily bits.
Ive just been looking over my bags and surprisingly found that the Citywalker 10, while a much bigger bag (Hadley size) than the Retro 5, it is actually lighter. I would love Thinktank to release an even smaller Citywalker than the 10 and make it a slimmer profile.

the downfall of the citywalkers for me is the much too stiff insert...it keeps the bag 'fat'...
the bowery is like a first class 5xb and no zipper on top as a bonus, also no velcro...
the think tanks get annoying with all those inner pockets...i don't use them and they start to annoy me just being there.
i like the retro 5 but i prefer the less boxy shape of the bowery.
the retro 7 is fine but heavy and also boxy...it sticks out from the body more than i like...in a crowd it hits people...i'm thinking of selling the retros soon as i have not used them lately...

Joe, that Domke 5xa bag may be perfect for me - thanks!
Do you know - does it come with inserts, can you change the configuration easily? Was not clear from the catalog pics I saw.

iirc, it comes with one insert/divider...usual velcro deal...

I know where you're coming from Joe. The insert in the Citywalker does beef it out a bit. I've been using either a Puleme insert or a Hadley one. Helps the bag become flatter but leaves more room for extras.
The Retro 5 I have found okay but if filled with both the Xpro, two lenses and the X100 it becomes a heavy box. Much better to use a bigger bag.
I never used my Domke 5xb because of the zip. The Ona looks a nice alternative. Why do bags have to be so expensive

profits? lol!!
the bowery will hold one camera with lens attached and one more lens...that is pretty much it...this is my ideal day kit...when i carry more than that i rarely ever use all the gear!
if i follow through...i will keep the 2 billinghams and the ona and sell the rest.

Sounds like perfectly good reasoning to me. I am wishing that I had the Bowery instead of the rugged wear 5xb because of the zipper.

Having looked at the Bowery Joe it looks like a good replacement for my Lowepro Terraclime 100 which is my day bag that I tend to carry with just a p&s or X100 only plus other stuff. I sometimes use this bag when just out for the evening when I need a bit more space than just my trouser pockets give. do you think its good for thtat?
I've been looking on the net and find that in the UK it's over £20 more. It's now looking more tempting to me though. Maybe I need a bag sale now, like you

the bowery looks good with jeans and dress pants so it would fit the bill for evening use...the strap is nice and long also...i use the terraclime 50 when i carry a camera with lens, no (big) bag and want just an extra lens along.

the zipper hampers gear entry and egress...i have never scratched any gear with it...but no zipper just makes for a much larger opening.

Thanks for the heads up on this bag. The dimension is perfect as my most use bag now is the Think Tank Hubba Hubba Hiney. Not as nice, but perfect in size and it's light. The Ona looks nicer, no zipper, and much cheaper than Billingham...

Looks a lovely piece. The design and size looks right for a lot of uses too. I particularly like the lack of zippers and Velcro closures.
Enjoy it!
