Love those M8 colors

Shot in Honk Kong earlier this month using an M8 with a Leica 50mm f2 version 4 and a Voigtlander 75mm f1.8

Most of these shots have not had the color touched, although I did sharpen the images and maybe play with tonality a bit for balance. The final one did have some saturation adjustment I think as Victoria Harbor was a little misty on the day and I think I over-compensated a little in post processing. Still over all I am pleased.

I love the way it renders color and of course the crispness.

The M8 and M9 produce files that I've just never been able to get from a Canon.

Peter.....the photos, and especially the colors, really are beautiful. There is also a 3D quality to the pictures.

1D Mark IIn mostly. The sharpness also doesn't compare. Granted, this body is a bit dated in today's terms at 8.2MP...

try 5dmk2 with a good lens, you will be impressed 😀

I'm another who seems to be getting a slightly over sharpened look ... mainly on the second and third pics.

Beautiful colours though and great shots.

I do miss my M8 at times.

in my experience hardy any og just a sligt sharpening is nessecary. how much sharpening do you all apply???

I love the way it renders color and of course the crispness.

Especially these two look a bit like they were processed with a HDR Tool, a bit artificial. The close shot with the persons looks very over sharpened. For me the last two cityscape photos look best because they look more naturally.

Nice pictures but agree that they look a little over-sharpened and over-saturated somewhat, but YES the M8 is a very capable camera, even with it's 10MP. I think a little less PP will improve the overall look of your images and make a stronger point.

How is it possible that the quality of these M8 images is readily apparent even on my 13" Macbook screen? When I go downstairs next, I'll take a look with the iMac; but on this screen they don't seem oversharpened.

On reflection I think a couple of images may be a little oversharpened as I can see some halos in a couple of spots.

I am even pretty sure how this happened - I got part way thru editing a batch of images and had to call it quits for the day. When I came back the next day I think a couple of them accidentally got a slight second dose of sharpening. But believe me when I say that a lot of the detail in the images is not from post processing /sharpening. It's information captured by the lens and recorded by the M8 sensor. (Mind you, I do not always nail the focusing quite so well.)

As to the color, I have not boosted saturation. I have however adjusted tonal values slightly. I have found that when I get it right and the conditions are good, with the M and good lenses it kicks butt when it comes to color rendition. (My view anyway.)

Photos are nice but honestly I can't help but think that the colours look exactly the same as the colours every DSLR on the market kicks out.

1937 CZJ Sonnar 5cm F1.5, wide-open on the M8. Straight out of the camera JPEG, reduced in size only.

The lens used makes big difference in color rendition on a camera, and the M8 is able to take lenses going back to 1930 or so. I like the subtle colors rendered by uncoated optics. The M8 gives a lot of choice of lenses, going back more than DSLR's.

I say that all that time about my R-D1 vs my Canon 7D. The R-D1 just produces awesome images. The 7D can mostly get there, but the files require a lot more work (that's shooting raw in both). I love the 7D for a lot of things, but street/people stuff isn't one of them.
