The Contax 1 is generally remembered as a revolutionary but somewhat troubled camera (now what does that remind you of?). Yet no such doubts appear in this gorgeous advert from Amateur Photographer, February 22, 1933, which I though Contaxophiles might enjoy.

The same issue features Leica 1s being knocked down for £10.00 complete with Elmar - half-price, presumably because of the new Leica II. It also includes this extraordinary ad for "Express Roll Film - The Fastest Film on the Market" at 1400 H&D - 43 ISO!

They were giants!

Cheers, Ian

You're not helping my lust for that damned camera!! :D

Great scans. Thanks for sharing :)

As it's a rather tired joke made by people whose cameras work well in every type of light, I will spare the world cheap so called humourous remarks along the lines of "does it need an IR filter?" or "any sign of the notorious Contax banding?" ...

Oops! Too late.

Robin, the answer is easy - e-bay! It's amazing how cheap old magazines often are: They offer incredible entertainment, nostalgia and inspiration for pennies - I recently got about 50 (1960-61) Amateur Photographers for just £9.00.

Donald, you are a very naughty boy! You mustn't keep upsetting the poor Leica people! :D

Cheers, Ian!
