Hi,

I don't post in this forum because I don't speak (write) english too fine. But, I want to share with you my happyness with this lens.

It has been like to come back to home... :)

I have recently got one of these. You certainly know how to use it. Love the first shot. It's a great lens.

Support structure for a theatre stage. This is were the C-Biogon shines. Straight rendering - at least if you hold it level!
Bessa R4M, Zeiss C Biogon 21f4.5, Tmax 100 in Beutler 1:1:10 for 7.5 min

Yes, Tom, its zero distortion is spectacular! :)

Before to buy the 21mm I was looking for information in the web and your opinion, Tom, was very helpfull to decide between diferent 21mm lenses. Thank you!

Now I'm looking for a R4M... to shot film. I have never seen one of this cameras but I think it must be enjoyable to have the viewfinder in the camera for the 21mm lines! without an external viewfinder...
 
Nice photography. I love using a 21, and I like mine as well: it lives on my Bessa R4M (both came from backalley so it is my "Joe" kit).

I need to do a comparison between the Zeiss 21 and my Cosina Voightlander 21 Skopar-S mount lens. Tom A. has probably done such a comparison.

Bob. I havent run a test directly between the S Skopar 21f4 and the C Biogon 21. The 21 S-Skopar is the same formula as the LTM/M mount. It is a very good lens, a bit more sensitive to flare than the Biogon - though not enough to worry about. I like the 21f4 Skopar's as "casual" 21's - for the times when you are not sure you are going to need one. It fits in a pocket, takes 39mm filter (LTM/M). The C Biogon is a serious lens - no distorsion, virtually no edge fall off, sharp as a tack already at 4.5. Drawback is that it doesn't come in a S-mount! In short, you need both!!!
 
^--- In this case the film was souped and scanned by Moon Photo in Seattle. They scan with a Noritsu and deliver .tiff files that are to my eye over-sharpened but otherwise nice, certainly usable for the web or as proofs. I import into Lightroom where I (in most cases) apply a relatively concave tone curve, dropping the dark tones and either leaving the highlights as-is or bringing them up a bit. Typically i back off vibrance and bump saturation slightly, and I may or may not bump the clarity: +11 is not an atypical setting. I don't touch the white balance. Finally, on the bottom frame I added some vignetting correction; effectively, dodged the corners a bit. Aside from that there's no dodging or burning.

All of this takes a minute or two. It gives a look that's maybe a bit closer to transparency film than to a straight print from color neg film.

Yesterday, at night, I was to make night photographs in the beach of Hendaye. I used the M9 and the C Biogon T* 4.5/21.

How do you see the result?

I liked the 4.5 a great deal. Essentially zero distortion, super sharpness, compact... but I discovered that for the way I shoot, f/4.5 is just too darned slow.

I use the 35/2.8 Biogon-C, and I don't find that limiting. Soooooo.... a 21/2.8 Biogon is on the way.
 
I too love my 21/4.5 C Biogon
Distortion is zero, so compact, but I have to admit there are times (not many) a bit more speed would be useful.
