Low Angle Finder for 35mm lens

As a natural born street photographer I use my M6 and, quite often a Mamiya TLR. The simple reason: bow low, and people will not complain about your activity. I think, it's the act of courtesy that makes the difference...

On cameraquest's site I found a gadget that might help actng more gracefully with my Leica, the Voigtländer Low Angle Finder, but there are only attachments for 15, 21, 25mm. You look inside from the top, just like with a TLR.

Are there similar viewfinders in the market for a 35 or 50mm frame?

Leica.

AUFSU (50mm)

AYOOC (50mm and 35mm)

AHOOT (50mm and 28mm)

I've only ever had AUFSU, the least rare. All are rare and production ceased, as far as I know, before WW2. Unlike some other 'waist level' finders these allowed widely variable eye relief.

Then there's Zeiss 436/5 (similar to AUFSU, I believe)

How about adapting a 'brilliant' finder from an old folder? Or even (with a bit of metal-bending) a box camera?

There's also the Flexameter focusing, uncoupled TLR conversion for Leicas; the better known (and I think self-coupling) Megoflex; and Lane from Sweden, though the latter requires the eye to be much closer to the eyepiece, as did the Zeiss 'Lighthouse' 436/2.

Cheers,

Roger

As good as the Voigtlander Low Angle finder is unfortunately it cannot be used as a waist length type finder. You simply can't see any image at that kind of distance as it is designed to be used with your eye up close to the finder.

I recently snared a Leica AUFSU finder for a very good price and this vintage device is AMAZING! If you have a chance to grab one do so!!! It has to be at least 60 years old and is bright and very easy to use and reminds me of my now long gone Yashica T5 with it's "Super Scope" only bigger and better.

Now if only Cosina/Voigtlander would make a modern day version of the AUFSU.... and make an option like the AHOOT for a 28mm FOV.

You can find out more info at Andrew Nemeng's website;

Scroll down a little and you will find some more info on the Leica AUFSU type finders along with some pics of what they look like.

akalai,

I followed the link to "Mr. Nemeng's" site - Nemeth's street photos are phenomenal, and I found his comment in photo.net about that costly little gadget... and today, I bought an AUFSU, for "only" 222$, and I hope the vendor delivers soon, my M6 and 50 cron are awaiting the wonder wart-hog finder eagerly... 😀
