Low End/Bottom dwelling models: your favorites?

Just scored a Minolta Maxxum 5 so I can mess around with my dad's Zeiss 24-70 2.8 on film
This is a LOT of camera for $15

The old camera store saying was that you doubled the amount of metal in a Nikon EM by putting a roll of film in it.

I was given an opportunity to buy one of these from a coworker. It's a nice camera, but when you compare it to the Maxxum 7, it's very lacking. A good size though, more advanced than base-model Canon Rebels certainly.
