Low light photos with your Yashica RF

I'm full of excitement every time that I take my old Electro 35 G out in the evening with a light tripod. I can easily get beautiful lowlight photos that would mean a lot of preparation and measuring with my other RF cameras.

Here's a couple of available light shots taken in Slovenia with my Oly XA. It was snowing quite hard and it was toward evening but the XA came through with flying colors. BTW these were hand held shots.

Just aquired a nr mint GSN with the lenses and VF. Not been able to put a film through it yet. Can anybody tell me if the lenses are worth using or do they degrade the image too much. Many thanks.

Exposure was about 4 min. at f16. Film was Kodak ISO200, but I didn´t recall which film brand really was.

Wow, I just realized that my pictures were shot on my XA not my GSN. I must have gottom carried away! So, here's a available light shot taken on my MG-1 at Disney! Sorry, the site won't let me download it.

This is exactly what makes Electro 35 G** so special. You don't have to do any metering at all, let your Yashica do it for you. Use a tripod and a cable release and set your camera to f/8 or f/11, (scale) focus and shoot away. Don't mind about the exposure "traffic lights", they don't know you are using a tripod. Shutter speeds up to 30 sec. are obtainable.

XA can do the same trick, don't know about Hi-Matic.

wow, who knew the Electro 35 could get any better?! gonna try this out tonight.

also, amazingly, I've had this Electro 35 with a stuck shutter, sitting on my window sill for months. I picked it up a couple days ago and cranked the advance lever and everything works fine! it's destiny... 😛

I set the camera on the floor in a suitable position, set f 16 in AUTO mode, and used the selftimer to shoot, just because I didn´t pick a cable release. BTW, in that camera, the B setting isn´t working.
According to the specifications, the metering system is able to measure up to 30 sec., so this picture was kind of a test. I guess that Yashica engineers stated 30 sec. just because possible leaks in the timing capacitor cannot provide safely longer times than that. I was amazed when the stated limit was exceeded, and started the doubt if it was working properly or not. Later I heard the click of the shutter closing and I started to breath normally.
Fortunately, yesterday I picked another one, a real GT for USD 20 that´s fully functional but the selftimer escapement is missing.
