Thanks Adobe, for screwing up my workflow with your crappy changes to the LR import process.

Yes, let's DIM the files to be imported, even though it works the opposite way everywhere else in the program. Just for starters. &^%$#

Oh, I'm so glad you apologized for screwing it up.

And I'm thrilled that Bridge no longer recognizes my D800 when connected via USB.

I am so sad that I have removed your software from my home machines.

And Thanks, Apple, for discontinuing Aperture, which worked perfectly. I need to Get an extra iMac and an extra Macbook to keep as spares, plus another couple copies of Aperture.

Chris L. -- Thanks for the link where Adobe spokesperson asserts: "I’d like to personally apologize for the quality of the Lightroom 6.2 release we shipped on Monday. The team cares passionately about our product and our customers and we failed on multiple fronts with this release." Apparently "the team" didn't "care" sufficiently enough about the "product" to get it right in the first place. And the "apology" amounts to weasel words unless the company plans on putting right the problem and compensating affected users for their troubles.. (ditto other companies engaged in seemingly disingenuous play with words)

The 6.2 update is the worst LR release in the product's relatively short history.

Beside the change for change's sake Import debacle, there are numerous severe bugs and near-fatal performance problems.

The recent update to fix these bugs had no impact or just made things worse for most people. Coupled with Adobe's horrific customer support, the recent update is a total disaster.

If you already bought it from the App Store you can still download anytime it from "Purchased." And if it works "perfectly" I don't see the problem. Unlike some, Aperture is still getting Camera RAW updates with the OS. (Not that I expect that to continue forever - eventually it won't work with the current OS. And then it will be truly dead.)

I do understand your pain - if you built a business on Aperture, it's a lousy situation. But you are not "dead in the water" by any stretch.

The good news there is that most of the existing Aperture functionality is still there, hiding behind different UI in Photos. Not all, and some missing that's a pain for sure.

The LR6.2.1 import, however, is atrocious. I will stick with 6.1.1 until they fix it or move to a different image processing app.

It's hard to sort out everything when processing, depending on your workflow, and complicates things a lot in some situations. That is counter to what used to be the LR design principles of keeping it simple. Plus it just doesn't work for many workflows. There's enough stuff just missing on import in LR6.2 that at least half my workflows are permanently broken.

Part of the issue seems to be the convenience of having one piece of software that 'does it all' in the sense of importing, cataloging, and then post-processing. The appeal, of course, is the ease of a one-stop shop to work flow.

If one is happy with separating out these steps, then alternative work flows exist. I have used (use) Photo Mechanic (which is a camerabits product) for import (& very fast curation capabilities) and digital management. Once imported and organized, then any other products such as LR, Photoshop, SPP (for those who enjoy the pain of Sigma processing and the joy of their images) can be used for image manipulation ...

Of course two-steps is one more than one-step. But Adobe have provided an excellent example of the potential risk factors of one-step workflows with its flawed LR update roll out.
 
It seems that if you aren't subscribing you ain't Kaka to Adobe. Or are these problems the same on CC? I have LR5 on my computer and don't see updating in the near or even distant future. My wife had to get 6 for her new Canon but I'll be sure not to update her's until they get it right.

Aperture is still working just fine. One day we will be screwed but not yet!
I just put el cap on my IMac and aperture is what it has always been.
Great but not perfect. 🙂

LR updated to 6.2 and LR CC updated to 6.2 are identical with respect to the import mess. It has nothing to do with subscription.

Lr 6.1.1 is good. I've updated to that and will stay there until they fix it, or move on to something else.
