I'm watching this lens offered on an auction site. What can you tell me about this lens? Is it as good as the M-mounts? What should be the price for a good user?

Some say it is slightly lower in contrast but mine compares to my M-mount Summicron.

It is a fine lens which I think you will enjoy using..
 
Are you talking about the collapsible Summicron from the 50s, or the more modern LTM release of the standard M-mount 50 Summicron?

The modern one is optically identical to its M-counterpart, while the collapsible lens is slightly lower in contrast and resolution than the M-mount Rigid Summicron.

Opinions on all versions of the 50/2 Summicron are about 2/3 down the page.
 
The LTM rigid Summicron is ridiculously priced, but the collapsible LTM Summicron goes for far less.

Not so, Raid (at least compared to the 35/1.4 ASPH :) :) ). It's a more
modern design than the collapsible one.

I have used both LTM and M mount collapsible Summicrons and didn't
find them different. Condition of the individual lens will be more important,
IMO.

Roland: Then I stand corrected; for some reason, I recall that the LTM Summicron costs several hundred Dollars more a comparable M mount Summicron.

EURO 500 are approximately US $ 700. The price is right, but how often will you find such a "new" LTM Summicron [ edited]? Isn't this a rather hard to find lens?

Huub, assuming it's a collapsible you're watching, this lens was produced from 1953-60, about 60,000 made.. Focussing scale in meters or feet (or both, later), non-linear diaphragm scale. The rigid version appeared in 1956.

I wouldn't pay more than about $300 for one; lens coatings are soft & prone to cleaning damage; check for haze. Mine is an early example with lanthanum glass & had a really scratched up front element which I had repolished & recoated. The cost of the work exceed that of the lens... Still, it produces a distinctive look

Yes, I agree it's rare, but if you're lucky you can find one. Btw. it's a 'cron and not a 'lux. US$ 700 for the LTM 'lux would be a real bargain!!!

Thanks guys. It seems the lens is a rigid. Definitely a clssic version and not the modern lens of Uwe's ebay link. So 300 euros max? Raid's would be a classic collectors item??
