yes, the shutter is working, but I will do a cleaning too...:)...the 1/500 sec is not so perfect..

this was a cheap buy, a camera in very bad condition.

Today I cleaned the shutter. 5 hours to get it fixed...:rolleyes:...I do not have a repair book, so I had big troubles to rebuild the shutter..:bang:..but now all works fine...:D

Nice work Jan, I'm about to scan Leica reepair manual for the older Barnack's. Possibly too late for you though ;)

You can find the later ones (IIIc onward) on Kim Coxon's site www.pentax-manuals.com. Not sure whereI will get the new scan hosted - maybe Kim is lurking?

BTW - judging by the wear pattern on the pressure plate (yellowish metal) I would say it is brass, as the one on mine is.
 
Not the case in this thread, but often the reason for a non-functioning shutter is a peice of film wound into the shutter curtains (cut the leader SMOOTHLY with no edges than can break off into the shutter).

It is sometimes possible to repair this particular problem by taking the camera shutter assembly out of the housing (aluminum part with the vulcanite on it) and without further disassembly, fish the film chip(s) out with a pair of tweezers. I managed to do this sucessfully outdoors in a campground once during my student days - the IIIc was the only camera I had or was likely to have for a long time.
