From my readings, I was under the impression that the Leicavit would fit Barnack bodies III and later. Now holding a Leicavit in one hand and a III in the other, I can't see that's true. It seems the winder is perhaps a small bit longer (1/16" or so).

It does mate easily, but the lug end of the body comes up short, failing to mate the hole in the Leicavit shell with the lug on the body. The wind shaft in the body is notched to accommodate the drive shaft; what's the story, Leicaphiles?

Thanks, Jo

SCNOO (1935) for cameras after serial number 159,000 (111,450 to 159,000 require modified take-up spool, below 111,450 requires big-pin base).

SYOOM (1951) for IIIc/IIIf.

Sounds like you're trying to fit a SYOOM to a pre-IIIc.

Incidentally, I think that 'Leicavit' is correctly applied only to SYOOM, and SCNOO was known either as 'the trigger-wind base' or simply as SCNOO, pronounced sku-noo.

Cheers,

Jo.

Thanks, Roger! The camera body is in the 228xxx range. Now that you mention it, I do believe I've read the IIIc and later were larger than the 1/500 III.

SCNOO for prewar cameras up to Leica IIIB - came in shiny chrome and black paint versions
(your camera would take this one)

SCNOO C for Leica IIIC cameras "wartime" 1940 to 1945 and 1946 to 1950 era IIIC`s only (very rare and collectable)

SYOOM for 1950`s era Leica IIIF and IIIG, but could also be modified to work with earlier Leica IIIC`s (most common of all speed/rapid winders for LTM)

Let me refresh the thread with one additional question on SYOOM - I understand it will perfectly fit IIf as well?

I'm interested in using SYOOM with IIf. I read about SYOOM's IIIf/IIIg compatibility everywhere, no one even mentions IIf, but it's basically IIIf without slow speeds, right?
