Hi, I was hoping for some advice...

I have two Voigtlander lenses with LTM (50/1.5 and 30/2.5). Both are great lenses and I have no desire to swap them for m-mount versions.

One of the adapters is poorly made (they are cheaper eBay ones not the more expensive ones) and doesn't bring up the correct framelines. This has caused a problem on my new M240 as it thinks a lens is not attached.

I was just going to get a new adapter that worked but then I noticed that there are adapters available to permanently convert a lens to m-mount. It looks like you just have to unscrew the mount plate and replace with the new one. Am I correct in thinking this? I will probably never use a LTM camera again and don't need the option to unscrew an adapter. They are also similarly priced to the normal screw on adapters.

Here is an example of the type of converter: http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/6-bit-code-Leica-M-mount-lens-adapter-50-75-75mm-frame-converter-for-M8-M9-M9P-/251202387519?hash=item3a7cd43e3f:m:m9nqv1252RmPEeLIxrTbdXw

The genuine Leitz adapters are actually really affordable these days... Averaging around 50$ or less. The VC adapters I see are still catching more money.

I'm lucky, all the generic adapters I've bought personally have worked great, but I do have a pile of bad adapters I've gotten with lenses over the years.

Yes, it seems to be very hit and miss for the cheaper ones. I was always really reluctant to spend any money on the Leica/Voigtlander ones as they're expensive for what they are. I guess buying the cheap ones might be a false economy!

Adapters have three notches. Those fit the three lugs on the back of the old style rear lenscaps of M lenses for an easy unscrewing.
The M240 can be fiddly with adapters. Get the newer Voigtlander ones with no cutout and coding ring. Available from the Chief Bartender here.

Hi,

My solution, many years ago, was to buy a cheap set from a dealer because I could then return them if they were no good. But being a dealer they were OK and I was very pleased with them. Although they needed marking '35mm' etc with a thin felt tipped pen...

In the long term I expect a lot more dealers will be offering them after, perhaps, pointing out the subtleties to the makers. The main one is the lug that turns round and moves the frame-line selector. Few people seem to have noticed it. I also suspect that a lot of makers have got their hands on one genuine one and copied that without realising the problems it causes.

Regards, David
