Ok, an odd request.

Does anyone have any images of their chrome/silver LTM Leica with a black lens(es) mounted? I'll be purchasing two VC lenses in a few weeks (28mm F1.9 and 50mm F1.5).

I know that I'll be buying an M body sometime mid-late next year,
I imagine I will buy a secondhand black chrome M6 Classic or similar and really do not like the look of the black body with chrome lenses (unless it's an M6 panda). I have found a few images online of LTM cameras with black lenses (mostly smaller pancake 35mm and 40mm lenses though) and I think I am more partial to a silver body with black lenses than a black body with silver lenses.

Of course, this is just an aesthetic thing... But if I have the choice :)

It's a LTM, just not Leica LTM :)

For both the Nokton and the Ultron, the chrome version age much better.

Yes I've heard that. Is it just paint flaking off of the lenses? I don't mind gear looking a bit 'beat up'... I prefer the look of a beat-up lens on a tarnished M series body than silver lenses on a M body... still, it's all only looks so not that big of an issue :)

I've got pictures of my IIIf with a Black Canon 50/1.4 and a 50/1.8 on it. Will have to find them. It looks good, BUT the 48mm front of the 50/1.4 obscures about 1/3rd of the viewfinder. The 50/1.8 with its 40mm filter front is better. The Nokton will be somewhere in between.

Hey thanks guys, and thanks for the image colyn. the 21 looks nice an a III :)

Regarding obscuring the finder, that's not that big of an issue. I have a Russian turret finder and may look at getting a VC viewfinder if the turret finder gets to cumbersome for use (I did get it for a great price though, so resale wont be a hassle if I decide I no longer want to use it).

Gerry, I used a Serenar 50/1.8 on an M3 for 17 years and got a few admiring glances -- but the lens was chrome.

Thanks for that. I am wondering if the black, with chrome control rings, is a decent performer. Also, hopefully, it wouldn't look out of place. Any thoughts on this?

The black-and-chrome Canon lens is said to be as good as the earlier chrome Serenar, or better. My thinking is that if a lens works well on a camera body, looks are of no consequence.

Here's the Canon 50 1.4 on my IIIc/K to F conversion.

This issue has been discussed before. Black bodies with black lenses were ok. Chrome bodies with black or chrome lenses were ok. Black bodies with chrome lenses least preferred. The truth is people who know what a Leica is are impressed. People who do not know what a Leica is don't care.

the whole purpose of this thread was to view some images of chrome LTM bodies with newer black lenses (and there have been some images, thanks guys!).

i have a chrome IIIc and am looking to purchase some new VC lenses, but I am looking for a black M series body as well (M4-P) and would prefer black lenses on that. as I am buying the lenses new, I have the option to go either chrome or black (i'll be getting one or both of them as LTM thread lenses so I can use them on both bodies).
