I have some "Lucky" branded b/w film from PRC rated 100asa. I was going to develop is this evening using Ilford's Ilfosol S. I am wondering how long to develop it as Ilfosol S seems to be directed toward fast films. Any thoughts?

Yeah, I have some thoughts. I've been using Lucky B&W 100 in 120 and 35mm format exclusively for well over a year. It's an outstanding film if exposed and processed properly. For superior results develop in Kodak HC110B for 6 minutes at 68ºf or Agfa Rodinal 1:50 for 8 minutes at 68ºf. Using Ilfosol is an invitation for disaster... read crappy negatives. Others might disagree however they probably don't shoot Lucky film exclusively.

On another note... toot toot... Lucky film is unique as it has a minimal (if any) anti-halation layer. This gives the finished snapshot a unique smooth look, scanned or silver printed. Below is a basic scan from a recent street snap using a Zorki 4 and a Jupiter 8 50mm lens. Probably f5.6 at 1/125... maybe.

Disclamer: I have no idea who these people are.

i've had very good results with hc110 diluted all the way out to 73+1 dev'ed at 12 minutes, 22C in the Jobo at slow speed, one shot dev.

Somewhat more subtle tones than with HC110B

Did you visit Vanbar? Try it in Rodinal, I just tried one roll of 100 as a test so far at EI's of 50 to 800 and stood in Rodinal 1:100 for an hour. 50 to 200 and even 400 looks good for my use. Of course 400 is dropping shadow detail.

Oh, sorry, just saw you were in Australia and had bought Lucky film and I recently saw (and bought) some of the same film from a photographic supplies store in Melbourne called Vanbar and was making a guess you'd done so too. Sorry for the confusion.

However, if you like this film, they're clearing it out for $2.20 a roll and have a good few hundred rolls of it. I might be making a bit more of a dent in it soon myself. Seems a good price, though not what it reportedly sells for in China.
