A Glimpse of the World
It is nice to see Michael Reichmann coming to terms with the multiple, serious problems with the new Leica, however belatedly.
There was some uncharitable, borderline ugly language on Luminous Landscape in the early days of the M8 release about people sniping from the weeds about this putatively great camera, along with digs against those who dared criticise Leica's new creature without owning it.
We all turn to publications like this to inform our purchase decision BEFORE taking the credit card out, and no one wants to be begrudged for demanding the respect of high standards in $5000 gear, or for that matter in the consumer information surrounding it.
LL is a fantastic resource and in general, Michael provides a tremendous public service to people who love photography.
Generally speaking, though, this has not been a great moment for photo journalism, and one hopes that useful lessons will be drawn.
