I just discovered that the G1 works really well with the discontinued Nikon SB-30 flash in "A" mode. The flash is a real bantam weight, so perfectly suited to this camera. At higher ISOs it has the reach of a really big gun for far distance, over 50 feet I would say. If you love the G1, this maybe the best flash currently available. And since all of the big players are likely to introduce monster flashes, this may be the best bet for quite some time.

P.S. When the G1 is set to one of its auto modes, the SB-30 sets the shutter speed to 1/30th of a second. Cool.

That surprising and very cool. I played with a G1 tonight at a local store and I like the direction they're going. I'm not going to pick one up but I'm watching with interest for what they do with the system. Can't wait to see what Olympus does.

SB-28 and SB-22s

Confirmed! My G1 works very well with the SB-28 and the SB-22s exactly in the way you describe.

Also, a remote flash will be triggered at the right moment (I use a Nikon SU-4) by a flash in the hot shoe of the G1. With the built-in flash this does not necessarily work.
