So I'm still running Aperture 2 and it looks like I now need to upgrade to Aperture 3 if I want ot convert RAW files for the Lumix GR1. Any other program out there that I could use over Aperture since I've come to hate it and want to move onto something else?

The alternative to Aperture is Lightroom from Adobe. Similar approach, similar features.
But it would help if you could tell us, what you dislike about Aperture. Perhaps you just need a simple Raw-converter without photo management?

I'm a big mac fan and have owned mac's for over 20 years, but I also make a living as an archivist and I need software that isn't Mac propriety as a whole. The ingestion of files for Aperture also annoys me in the same way that iPhoto did. It's very effiecemt from my standpoint. Plus, I really hate the color tools that Aperture II has.

I've actually been looking into Lightroom at this point, but found they are about to make a major upgrade and want to wait till I see it before making the jump (which probably will).

None the less, I have a new to me Lumix GF1 that I can't use the RAW files on as Aperture II doesn't support em. I'm not inclined to drop the upgrade price for Aperture III at this point either. Does that help?

WHy not use iPhoto temporarily? Or download the trial Aperture 3, along with the Lumix Raw update?

And of course the new Lightroom Beta is free to download if you want to try it out.

The only software I know where you can move the database with your modifications between a mac and a pc is Adobe Lightroom. With Lightroom you are not locked inside a mac but I think you are locked inside the Adobe world. Not a problem for me but for some people this might not be acceptable.

I'd suggest Lightroom, I've used it lightly and much prefer it to Aperture. With Lightroom you can use the files where they already are on your disk, and it's quite a lot faster.

LR 3 beta has the same (new) processor as the new PS (we assume CS5) and from the date issued for the beta 2, should be available in June. You can try the beta 3.2 free right now. I've used LR since beta 1.0 (along with CS3 which I haven't upgraded and I've had PS since maybe PS 3 and always have upgraded PS in the past). LR, along with the older PS, is all I need at this point.
