Last night's lunar eclipse over Sydney was absolutely beautiful, after the cloud cover dispersed during the second half. I took a number of photos with a 550D on a tripod using a 70-200 lens and 1.4x converter; this photo is at 448mm equivalent taking the 1.6 APS-C crop factor into account:

The moon looks amazing! I had planned to watch the lunar eclipse, but I decided to head back inside my house when clouds began to obstruct my view.

Binoculars, 8x 42, 80mm motor driven refracting telescope, OM2n with the 200 f4, the Leica C-lux 2 and the iPhone and two tripods all in the cupboard as the bloody rains kept coming down. Many eclipses and other wonders have I missed down here but I will always go out, hoping for break in the clouds, but not last night, no hope. Lovely shot Lynn.

Nice one Lynn. Looked pretty good in Brisbane too. No pics though.

i only got away with a handheld one on my D90 with 85 1.4 from the 7th story roof of my apt building slightly outside of seoul (less light pollution)
i brought my longer lenses back to the States, and my tripod is at a friends house
1:1 cropped but still lousy version:

This was the eclipse of 28-8-07 with the Coolpix 4500 on a separate tripod, lens applied to eyepiece of the 80mm refractor, the only sharp one I could get. You can see Copernicus in this one. I got some others that night, but none sharp. 1" f2.6, ISO 400

Thanks Lynn, this makes my day as I was bummed about the cloud cover this morning. Wasn't going to be good viewing for us Yanks, anyway, with totality after moonset.

Richard, I still have my Coolpix 4500 - couldn't bear to part with it. Still have the slide copy attachment, too. Lovely camera for macros.
That sure was a lovely eclipse photo you took back in '07.

Thanks so much Lynn. Yes the macro on that camera is fantastic. I've just revived it in the last week while my X100 is in being fixed.

Mike Johnston (The Online Photographer) has picked up Lynn's picture. But of course, what's 10,000 miles to 250,000?

thanks for the comments guys - if anyone else has eclipse photos, please post them!
Richard - I had sent a link to Mike Johnston shortly after uploading it to Flickr. It was a nice surprise to see he'd mentioned it. As Bill Pierce said recently: "I saw something wonderful. Let me show it to you." This is one of the joys of photography.

Great to appear on TOP. That is a great site for many reasons, not least that Mike Johnston really can write.
