I can't believe you guys, trying to deny the super-rich the bags that they need.
I believe you can buy Elephant hide boots at most any cowboy footwear store.

That elephant skin bag is appalling. And I don't (just) mean aesthetically.

I was thinking this too when I saw this. But if it isn’t then this is actualy really funny in that he would think this idea is a good one in anyway.

It's good to see the elephant skin bag has a 'chewing gum' pocket. This shows the type of client the bag is designed for.![]()
Heh, the kind that chew gum constantly cannot afford these things. Didn't he do any market research?

Elephant skin? freakin scientologist freak.
The government freaks out about things made of Ivory, which are illegal to own, buy, or sell (except antique items). Surely elephant skin cannot be legal? If it is, it damned well shouldn't be!

Totally disgusting, I hope that when this individual arrives with his hideous bags in Australia that he gets pick up by the border controls officials for illegal imports of animal products, bags confiscated and incinerated.

The skin is just a byproduct of the ivory trade... or is the ivory just a byproduct of the skin trade... or more likely they are both a byproduct of land clearing, what else do you do with all those pesky elephants.

Thorsten von Overgaard and Matteo Perin join forces to offer us the ultimate in luxury camera bags, made of crocodile hide and elephant skin:
Thoughts?
ELEPHANT SKIN? someone should report this guy

I'm walking gingerly with all of you who are outraged by this, but the communities in Africa that are given ownership and responsibility for the conservation of elephants earn money by issuing legal hunting permits for elderly animals, to harvest and are allowed to market the hide and other legal parts.
No Ivory is legal by international convention, though the governments of countries do collect the ivory and depending on the corruption (or not) of the powers, from time to time some Ivory enters the black market.
In India I believe, a vigorous market is made of raising elephants used as beasts of burden, and the hide is marketed just as the leather of any other animal.

Chris;
You're not up on the "treats" our betters are into.. Cocaine Chewing Gum no doubt. Just the thing, when you've tossed your Elephant Leather bag full of Leica hear into the back of a chopper, ready to venture fearlessly into conflict golf course country.

I’m not sure if I’m outraged by the materials or just grossed out at the lengths some people will go to to make themselves feel better than everyone else. I think it’s one of the most disgusting traits of humanity.

Maybe: make themselves "Think They" feel better than everyone else..?

not going to disagree, that's one ugly bag, especially made of elephant skin and tacky color.
watching his video on his site, seems to me he's more a jet setter that brings his gear into one static location like a studio for room for a shoot.
otherwise I would hate to be seen carrying a bag like that out in the street.

What it really boils down to is Overgaard represents everything that is embarrassing and cringeworthy about the Leica 'lifestyle'.

Did I read correctly 20K for a bag? also are elephants not an endangered species? It all seems wrong on so many levels.
No, $20K is not correct -
So there you have it - $30,000 to $40,000 for the crocodile bags; no word on the cost of the elephant skin bags....With Italian designer Matteo Perin, I decided to make some bags for myself, using the best artisans in the world, and using the best materials available. I wanted - as I always do - something that meets my own requirements for functionality, good looks and durability. Matteo Perin has made bespoke clothing and accessories for celebrities and millionaires for years in this way. But from a user viewpoint, that is exactly what you want. You want the ideal product that fulfills all your needs, made to make you happy every time you use it, and made to last forever...
Price is upon request. Expect $6,000 for calf skin and $30 - $40,000 for croc. Delivery is usually three months...
[SARCASM] With regard to the animals, they have no rights to begin with; they are just dumb animals and are here on earth to be used and butchered as we humans see fit.
Killing and skinning crocodiles and elephants is a very small price indeed, as long as the bag "makes you happy every time you use it" and as long as you can take great pride in telling your friends that "Matteo Perin has made bespoke clothing and accessories for celebrities and millionaires for years," right?? [/SARCASM]
IMHO, these bags are baboon butt ugly. As we have seen in the past, Thorsten obviously has a fetish for fugly megadollar bags and has truly outdone himself this time.
As for the end users of these bags, the monumental arrogance and self-entitled narcissism of the idiots who would actually buy and use these abominations cannot be overstated.
