Hi,
1) I've seen similar outgassing on lenses from people using crazy glue - botch repairs.
2) It happened a few years ago and have no clue as to the brand, many times cheap items are sold without any packing whatsoever...
3) I didn't say that ALL cheap lens caps outgas, just that I avoid them like the plague.
4) Well you can't blaime me for pointing out a possible problem..
Regards,
Robert

rlouzan, how do you know it was outgassing from a cheap plastic lens cap that caused the damage? Also, how long ago was this, and where did the cheap plastic lens cap come from, and/or what brand was it? How have you come to the conclusion that all cheap plastic lens caps will outgas and cause damage?
A number of people have reported that the cheap plastic caps are serviceable. No one else has reported hearing of similar problems. Perhaps the case you cite was unusual, or limited to a particular brand or type of lens cap. In any case, it doesn't seem to be a well-known problem.

No blame, I was just curious.
The Fotodiox camera body caps I ordered from Amazon came in, one for my M3, one for my M6. They fit perfectly and appear to be well made. Since these are body caps, they won't be near any lens glass.
I ordered a rear lens cap from Fotodiox too. It appears well made and fits pefectly too. Neither it nor the plastic packaging it came sealed in have any detectable smell. I'll be on the lookout for issues.
