now you've worried me.... hmmmmmm. i have some heavy lenses that i rarely carry arround (shoot them more inside) but i will pull out the Noctilux at night.
i think i've seen Peter's version of the Ralph Gibson MP braid and it was absolutely gorgeous.... he'll do custom camera straps still?

I love Camera Time, Luigi's leather straps. Classic, good looking, feels great, smells great, and goes with any outfit! Better then the original Leica leather straps.

Try a Wrist Strap
Try a Wrist Strap
I don't think there is a right or wrong camera strap material but leather has that nostalgia thing going for it and pairs up nicely with rangefinders.
If you're on the fence, try a wrist strap, especially if you always have a bag with you. I only like a camera strap on when I don't have my camera bag with me. Otherwise, your hand becomes one with the camera with a decent wrist strap attached.
Gordy makes a real nice wrist strap. I just ordered one from Luigi, who's bailiwick is Italy.

Personally, I like the original Leica strap that came with my camera, the problem that I had was, over the years the rubber nubs wore off and it became a little "slippery" on my shoulder, it just didn't feel like it had the same "grip" anymore....so I decided to purchase an upstrap and an artisan and artist "m3-style" strap when I was back in the states visiting last Christmas. Well, I really like the upstrap, but the problem is, it comes with metal hardware, and I am not a fan of having metal hardware on my straps...that is the main reaon why I never use my domke gripper strap....anyways, I ended up cutting up the Leica strap and transferring the plastic hardware to the upstrap. I am pretty happy with the quality of the upstrap, but the rubber shoulder pad thing is not as flexible as Leicas, so when I wrap the strap around my wrist, the pad sits pretty akward on my wrist because it doesn't bend like the Leica one....I freaking hate my artisan and artist strap....the quality is excellent and no complaints as far as craftmanship, but I don't like how the leather tabs and strap sometimes get in a weird postion and block the viewfinder eye piece on my m3...when I raise the camera to my eye sometimes the strap is in the way and it is a little cumbersome to move it if you are not expecting it to be there (I actually hit my eyeball on the strap one time)..the leather safety flap thing and the strap get "tight" and you have to "reverse" the strap in order for it to fall proper....not really sure if that makes sense to anyone, but it annoys the hell out of me....anyways, I am a fan of the original strap.....cheers, michael

I dig the Domke gripper because you can clip the 2 swivels together without the gripper section which I do while around the house. Then there isn't a strap hanging off the edge of my desk or generally getting in the way to be snagged by something and pulled to the floor. While out and about there are also a couple of ways to hook the swivels onto themselves to create a wrist strap. Not so fancy that way but functional.

I was pretty set on ordering a Voigtlander strap online for cheap but when I paid a visit to Photo Village, they had some lovely Artisan & Artist * straps and I gave in to the aesthetics and the aroma. I had already planned on getting one of their half-cases and getting one of their adjustable straps seemed like the sensible thing to do. I have no regrets!

I went with the A&A Kobe straps for my MP and M3. Simple design and puts the camera right on my chest. Luigis are nice too, and as Tom A said, they smell nice!

Another vote for the Upstrap. I've used the Domke grippers for years and they work well but the little rubber feet wear out. The Upstrap keeps the camera on my shoulder and even holds on my fire turnout coat, something the Domke doesn't do. The only downside to the Upstrap - it is not as flexible as the Domke.

The basic Leica nylon strap (14312) is excellent. The pad grips well, the strap material just flops out of the way, your camera is shielded from the scratch-inducing metal bits, and - once you've worked out which end of the loop to feed through the strap lug - moving it from one camera to another is but the work of a moment. Dirt cheap, too, which is always a bonus.

Agreed, once figured out removal/refit is not too bad at all really though I must say that Y-Strap is still my No1 favourite right now and having made a few small additions of my own such as quick release hook to the split ring attached to the Y-Strap & fitting a smaller split ring to most of my cameras it now is a full 1 second process to fit/remove, great for street photography too though I've not yet dared to try it with the weight of my R8 on the end of it for fear of putting my neck out!The basic Leica nylon strap (14312) is excellent. Instead of opening yet another strap-thread, I'd rather try to find an answer to my strap related question here:
Does anyone have the Artisan & Artist silk strap? I'd really like to hear about the experiences with that strap, since it seems to wrap more easily around the wrist than leather straps. Also I wonder how it feels worn in tourist-mode around the neck. Is it as comfortable as a padded Luigi deluxe strap?

I like a luxecase strap. Luxecase makes a very nice neck strap.
