Ya.. part of me is actually craving an M7 again.. I never did purchase one locally a while back but now I keep thinking of the AE and it swishes around this noggin of mine a bit.... the internal meter and AE would be cool again but I've had the internal meter in the M6 and found it to be.. well.. this may sound weird.. not as "accurate" as me metering a scene with a hand meter or the voigtlander meter.

That's weird, I've been wondering about the M6 internal meter myself, but I think it's because I have to keep reminding myself about the metering area; certainly different than metering incident light; lately I've just been adding a stop to what the M6 tells me, if I can, not because I think the meter is off, but because I may not be thinking about the overall scene and what I'm not considering at that moment. Better to have a stop more of info if feasible, I say.

I've tried a few M7s. They are nice, but just not my cup of tea. I like the freedom from batteries (I could still use the M6 if the meter's battery dies), but the AE feature is really really nice. But a used M7 is twice as much as an M6.

Two used M7s could be a new M8, mon ami... 😉

along the lines of gabriel's thought -

fwiw, i sold some nice lenses and a really special M6 for an M7 ... and now have seller's remorse. i didn't fully appreciate the M6's simplicity, despite its meter. peter and others have said to give the M7 some time, which i'll do of course. i guess the point is that having to sell gear to get gear is risky. better to be able to try it out and THEN sell what doesn't catch one's fancy.

so dave, do be careful about selling off those M bodies prematurely.

What are you metering with the M6? It works perfectly fine if you meter a middle gray area, just as you would with any reflected meter. As I'm sure you know, if you just meter the central area of your composition for every shot, it is going to give the wrong exposure quite often, but that's obviously not the fault of the meter. Fortunately film latitude is very forgiving of such errors.

one more thing to add. pick up an M3 style advance lever from dag and install that. i personally hate the M4/M5/M6/etc advance levers. the older ridgid ones work much better. they aren't too expensive, and are rather easy to install. that added onto an M4-2 makes the perfect meterless leica.

I saw the part, but can you expand on the installation, or point me in the right direction? I prefer the old lever as well. Thanks.
