M Monochrome Prize I shot it: Show us your photos

There should be an exhibit for all of this

There should be an exhibit for all of this

There are MANY really good photos in this competition, at least 100 that would make a fantastic exhibition somewhere in the world. I think they should pick the best throughout the year and pick a city and place. That would be awesome if they could.

I entered a few. It looks like they just started another contest with the same prize (Monochrom + Cash based on number of entries) that is running for the next three months. The prize for the first competition has gone up considerably since I first entered. Whoever wins (hope it's me!) will end up with more than enough to buy a killer set of lenses for the Monochrom, if that's what they want to.

Here are my entries for both contests:

Dolphin shot

Dolphin shot

Thanks Wintold! I appreciate your comments! My wife wanted me to enter that. I have alot of depressing photos from Israel and Palestine, photos of the downfall of Bethlehem Steel in Bethlehem PA, etc,,, . I thought it would be nice to enter something cheerful for once. I really love the tonal range my M8 gave me for that shot. What amazes me is how I had to set everything up (pre visualize, pre focus, set exposure) and react in a fraction of a second. i really love the zero lag time of the M8. To me that is a big issue that makes the M even more attractive to me.

My daughter and her new friend

My daughter and her new friend

I need to add how I connected with my daughters emotions as well as the dolphin. I saw the photo in my mind hours before, it was only a matter of time and when it would present itself. What amazes me is how she and the dolphin are sharing the same exact thoughts and emotions, kind of mind melding with another species.

Good. Staged?

Thank you. It's not staged, surprisingly. In fact, when I took it, I thought almost nothing of it. A friend had entered a 48 hour film contest (write, film, edit, score a movie in 48 hours), and had asked me to take pictures "on set". These two were actors in the movie (also just the director's friends). As is typical when making a movie, there was plenty of down time. The final scene we were shooting was inside a train car diner, the steps of which I am sitting on. It had been a VERY long day, and we were all exhausted. These two were waiting around while the lights were set up, and I fired off a couple shots. It's probably my favorite picture of anything I've ever taken, and I still get something out of it every time I look at it.

I just entered three but, to be honest, they're all large format shots. I did enter some Leica M shots in other competitions (all film shots, by the way).

For the MM prize this is probably my best ever infrared LF film shot:

And I just got good light one day while at a local cactus garden:

Drew: Love large format!

Drew: Love large format!

I love your IR Large Format! Was it 4x5 or 8x10? Although 80% of my shooting is digital, I like the 8x10 for industrial landscapes and portraits! I am glad to se LF shooters! LF relaxes me in this digital world!

Thanks! It's 4x5, I don't even want to think how expensive and frustrating 8x10 IR would be. I still have 2 50-sheet boxes of Efke IR820 Aura in 4x5 in the freezer, so I can keep shooting for another couple years. Hi,

I entered too. Before entering I read the FAQ and one of the questions was something about, when are the winners contacted. The answer was something like anywhere from a few days to a week depending on the work schedule of the judges.

However this contest grew to huge numbers compared to some of the others so I figured it would take much longer; probably over 2 weeks.
Two weeks starts today. 04/18/13

Anyone knows about the result of the competition?

Here is a scan of my photo.

Taken with my M6 on Iford's Delta 3200.

Well,

The results are in. Anyone here at RFF win? Any opinions on the results?
