M mount lenses on Canon EF mount cam?

The distance from the rear of an M-mount lens to the film plane is much smaller than that of the distance between the rear of an EF-mount lens to the film plane. This means that an M lens would have to be recessed well into the body of an EOS camera in order to achieve infinity focus. Not that it cannot be done, but in general, not practical.

Most Leitz 90mm and 135mm lenses produced before the 80's can have the lens head removed and then mounted on appropriate short focusing mounts. The combo can then be fitted to Canon EOS 5D by a Japanese made mount adapter Elefoto 1416CE (available at CameraQuest for $175 + shipping).
