M-P 240 $2500 On CL

$2500 for an M-P 240.
What do folks think?
Does this look fishy or like a good deal.
I'm not much of a CLer.
Thanks for the comments.

Meet in person at a starbucks in a very traffic-heavy location. Pay in cash. Don't send the money in any other way. Looks a little suspicious. Particularly the Moscow part and the language used. But then I'm always suspicious on CL. Just send a email out and see what he says and go from there.

I would ask if he minds meeting at a police station. Local police in most parts of the country are happy to host CL transactions. See if your local police are the same way.

It could be totally legitimate. Not everyone is articulate on a CL ad, and not everyone cares to get what they paid from their stuff, they just want it gone. But always, always: Buyer beware. Check documents and be close to the authorities.

I'm concerned too even send an email.
It just seems too good to be true.
In the past for CL sales I have met people at my bank.
Deposit their cash without leaving the building.
This is different as a purchase.

Are Leica warranties even transferable ?

Don't waste your time. I see these types of listings for leicas in my local CL frequently. One photo, and a description/price that is too good to be true.

I have emailed before and gotten a response similar to - "I'm out of town for 4 weeks, but can have the camera shipped once I receive payment"

Edit: did a quick search again and came across these...

All three seem like total BS

Yeah the Seattle CL has a couple iffy-suspicious ones show up occasionally. I don't have the spare cash or time to partake in this, but feel free to!

You might end up with a previously-stolen MP 240 though.

I wouldn't worry that much. I got an used M240 for about $3000 from getdpi. That was last year, so I guess the price would have soften a little. The guys listed at mid 3k is not realistic.

Yeah it's bs.
I don't go to cl to purchase much.
It's close to a legit price but of course is too good to be true.

Hi,

I'm sorry, at the moment I'm out of the city because of my job. I travel a lot, so I don't have time to use it. I'II come back after 5-6 weeks.
Camera in mint condition no any issues, I can guarantee.
I took camera with myself, so it's possible to ship it now. Would you cover shipping cost or you prefer to split it?
By the way, where are you located?
Any question welcome.
I can share more photos, if you need?

Thank you

If I were in the market and saw that, I'd at least take the next step. No harm in doing so. Serial number and proof of purchase would be my request. But I would expect silence or a response much like the one you received.

The fact that it says "No Return" makes me think this is a hot potato and the seller just wants to get rid of it. And, of course, the response confirms my (and everyone else's) suspicions.

That being said, I'm glad I read this thread because I've gotten a couple of ideas on places to meet for Craigslist transactions, like my bank and the local police station. Great ideas on places to meet! Thanks!

I hate scammers, So I've responded back to him. I got the same canned response, I plan on wasting as much of their time as possible!
More details to come

Is there any good way to report the listing to CL ?
I can't see a tab to report. Seems like CL would have a system set up for this sort of thing.

Purchased in Moscow, for sale in Seattle?

Stolen in Moscow (from apartment with box and else), resurfaced in Seattle...
Or guy from Moscow is broke in Seattle...

Or it was gift to kid, GF and now relation is broke. Toys for sale to make it hurts more.
I'm going on BF party today. Toronto professor. From Belarus. His older son owns Mercedes SUV. They purchased it for same money as Leica listed here. From Russian in GTA. Car was registered on him, driven by daughter. One day he became pissed off and sold car he owned for nothing. We, Russians, don't show middle finger, but now how to **** for real.

Andy, at the top of every CL listing, there is a "prohibited" checkbox. This is to report scams, prohibited items, etc.

Hi Larry Thanks!
I saw that and clicked a day ago .
The add is still up earlier this morning although It's shows as flagged now.
I guess it takes a while to confirm a fraud ??

Don't bother flagging. I used to do that, and if the ads do get removed the scammers put them back a day later. craigslist does not have a proper vetting process.
