M Shutter advanced ?

Hi,

Is it OK to leave the M(6) shutter always advanced when no shots are taken. (even in between shoots) ?

I think that I've heard from a couple of reliable sources that it's ok to leave the shutter advanced on Leica M bodies.

In between shots, it's not a problem. When I'm out shooting, I always advance just after I shoot. When I finish my shooting session I try to leave it not advanced. The thing you should care about is battery drain if the shutter is half pressed in your bag. Leave it in the B position and problem solved.

I don't know if it hurts the camera if you leave it a long time with the shutter advanced. Somebody will know better.

That's right, there is the battery-drain issue with the M6. I just turn the shutter speed dial to B/OFF.

good question. the only camera I know affirmatively that should be left advanced is the Hasselblad. The Leica I have become accustomed to leaving Un-advanced. it really matters most if the cam is left unused a long time.
