Hello all,
I recently (finally) acquired a M2 and am loving it! I shot my first roll of film yesterday but have not had it developed yet. I have a couple of questions that I hope some one will be able to supply the answers to: 1. I also bought a 50 mm Summitar and an adaptor to mount it on the M2. It brings up the 35mm lines. Is this just something I will learn to live with or is there an adaptor available that will bring up the correct lines? 2. I just read somewhere that if one takes the "eyes" off an older 35 mm lens and mounts it directly to the camera, then the focusing isn't accurate even if the camera has the 35 mm frame lines. Is this so?
Thanks in advance
Roger

1. Sounds like you have the wrong adapter-the correct one is for sale for only $30 in the Classifieds (not mine).
2. That's correct.

Hi Roger

Congrats on your new camera. The M2 was also my first Leica and I still love using it.
About the 35mm... I've used a Russian threadmount lens (J12) with the 35mm adapter, and had no focusing issues. Haven't had a chance yet to try the older Leica threadmount 35s, but I also think that those didn't come with eyes?

Thanks for your replies. It looks as if the best solution is to try to find a reasonably priced 35mm M mount lens or to find a screw mount lens and the proper adaptor to M mount. There's also the option of using eyes and all, but that kind of takes away from the allure of compact and quiet blend-into-the-background photography that I am aiming for with a rangefinder.

As rncamero suggested, the Jupiter 12 35mm f2.8 lens is the best bang for the buck, costing around $40 used. For a modern higher contrast look, the Cosina-Voightlander 35mm f2.5 lens, new or used, is a good buy.
